Turkey Bird Update
« on: March 16, 2009, 06:53:04 PM »
Here are a few yard birds from my "one last kitty cat" trip to eastern WA this past weekend. There's still a lot of snow down to 2000'. Dumped on me off and on Sat and still a ton of sled guys on the trails as the morning progressed.

The birds were grouped up heading straight to food off the roost. I managed to catch a pic of three toms gobbling back to me at the same time. Quality is bad being first light and just my little digital cam.

Gonna be another tough season playing the snow for some of us. Find and follow the green up as much as possible.
May the morning silence be broken with the wisp of vanes trailing blades to their mark.

Are you those are Turkeys? I've been scouting for the last few weeks pretty hard in known turkey locations and I didnt' see anything that looked like those.  :dunno:

You can find birds in the snow, but there HAS to be food for them. The food will be in those areas sheltered from snow that allow new shoots to grow and a place for birds to scratch out food bits. River bottoms close to timber, Agri fields in canyons that are in close proximity to cover and timber. Below 2000 feet is where I saw these birds. I saw every bit of 150 birds on Sat morning before 10:00. Most of them right at shooting light. Look for track and trails in the snow as you drive in as well.
