If you are looking for a quality over under for around $1000 the FNH made Winchester Model 101 ultimate fields at bass pro for $999 are great guns.
Practical accuracy and a packable rifle.
Blued steel and walnut is always better.

I have heard good things about the 101s I just have never had the chance to shoot one. Would like to know how they fit.

Browning and Beretta fit much differently

:yeah: As said good guns for the money, they use the Browning Invector+ choke tubes that are easy to obtain. It would be hard to find a Beretta used for that price (they did have a lower end about 10 years ago). You may be able to find a used Browning in that price range, draw back to that the older ones had no choke tubes or Invector that are harder to find unless you search the web.  :twocents:

Do you know the dimensional differences? More drop or different LOP? I have shot both on clays and did well, but I do have a lot more experience with brownings.

No, but if I was blindfolded and you handed me one or the other, I could tell right away.
For me, Browning shoulders and points more naturally.

Not sure if it matters but to me it did.  I bought a Beretta because it fit me almost perfectly when I bring it up to my shoulder but I also very much prefer the slimmer forend.

If your going to be around JBLM and want to try mine out I would be happy to meet up. I bought the 101 for a no frills, solid bird gun and it does just that (on clays so far, Im am impatiently waiting for the seasons to begin)

I have been shooting Browning Superpose's for many many years.  This spring I started shooting a 101 just because.  I really like the way it shoots.  Fast forward to a month ago I just picked up another one because I just could not let it slip away for the price they were asking.  The new one has 27" barrels with Win Chokes. I have always shot 26".  I have shot over 300 pigeons with it this month and absolutely love it.
When I leave at the end of the month for Montana for the next 3 months my Brownings will be staying home for the first time ever.  I only shoot 20 gauges unless hard  core duck and goose hunting then that is an entirely different gun.

Thanks! I appreciate the offer but rarely make it over to wet side.

Thanks for the review that is good to hear. Are your guns the Japan made or FN made models?

I saw a nice Beretta 686 white onyx 12ga at Pintos gun shop in Renton. $1400. I thought about buying it myself. Had 5 chokes and a heavy duty TSA approved metal case. Still there when I left at 5pm.

Both of the 101's I spoke about are the Japanese. This past Thursday I picked up a Charles Daley circa 1971 in near perfect condition for a song.  Good deals are out there.
