Lake Helen hunting?
« on: October 23, 2018, 04:20:19 PM »
Looking at doing a backpack trip in through Kapowsin forest. I'm looking at some of the hills off the 25 road in Kapowsin tree farm (if you know the area). I've hunted back there before and seen many other hunters, however, when you pull it up on maps it says its in Mt. Rainer National park......anyone know for certain if that area up around Lake Helen is huntable? Looking to get deep in there and up in some of those high meadows.
I'd appreciate any advice.

You need to get onx maps - on your phone. There is a free 7 day trial, and 29.99 annual fee (for one state of your choice), and worth the money.
This lake area you are interested in shows as being surrounded on 3 sides by the park google maps - each boundary within a half mile, and onx shows it being surrounded by private timber companies by hundreds of feet on 3 sides, still a half mile or so out of the park.
Provided you have a phone with some memory left to spare - it is a no brainer and it will not only save you big $$ in trespass fees, your downed animal, etc, but will also show you new spots legal to hunt.
And no, this is not a commercial endorsement for onx - just a user satisfied.
The best of luck

Appreciate that. I was going to get it. I was looking at the area and noticed that. I guess my confusion came from seeing many people hunt off the 25 road and even seeing security and loggers back there, but according to the maps its in the park (the section im talking about off that road). I'll for sure get that though and watch where im at up there!

Any one up for a backpacking trip?
