Youth cow tag filled!
« on: November 12, 2018, 09:07:24 AM »
I know some of you have seen the picture of success in the original topic from when she drew but I figured I'd share the success story on its own thread.
We started her hunt on in the wenas area on Saturday mainly because I have family that hunts that area during the rifle season.  We hunted that area for 4 days only seeing two elk that weren't in the safety zone area.  Tuesday night I decided we would break down camp and head to another unit.
Most of Wednesday was spent breaking down and setting up camp but we had 2 hours of light left so we went out and had a group of 4 elk cross the road on the way to where we wanted to hunt.  Thursday morning we get up early to hunt the area we saw the elk the evening befor.  After a short walk I noticed her scope ring mount screws are backing out of where they screw into the the rifle witch and the morning hunt rather quickly.  I packed my sako (same caliber of what she shoots) in the truck for a back.  Had her put a few rounds down range at 100yds with it.  It wasn't the prettiest of targets but shots were all in the 8 ring or better off her shooting sticks.
That afternoon we parked and walked an old skid road for about 1/4 mile and spotted a cow standing off trail 100 or as yards ahead of us.  Tossed down the sticks for the daughter and the cow steps across the trail out of sight.  We move up and elk steps back into the trail.  Set up for shot again and the elk turns and walks away.  We move up and the elk steps back into the trail a 3rd time.  This time further away and quatering away pretty hard.  Daughter gets on the sticks I remind her of her shot angles that we've talked about many times.  Gun goes off cow drops and I see hooves go up in the air as she rolls off the back of the little nob she stood on.  We moved up right away because I thought she had spine shot her and I wanted another shot in her fast.  We got to where the elk was shot and no elk she had rolled gotten back to her feet and ran about 40yds into the trees where we found her piled up.
Emily had placed bullet perfect right at the 2nd to last rib.  Shot angled up through lung and stopped on the off side ribs.

I just love KIDS KILLIN KRIDDURZ! When I'm dead and gone I'm gonna need these kids to keep the tradition going. That's one of the many reasons I still teach Hunter Ed. Congrats to the young lady, I look forward to another pic next year.

Good job, congrats to the little lady!!

Her smile says it all.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
