Successful first MT trip
« on: November 15, 2018, 10:36:31 AM »
Never written a story about a hunt before but here we go. Had a trip planned to MT for November since early this year. I knew talking to a few people I needed to plan on weather ranging from frigid cold to 60 degrees as the weather always seems to change. Fast forward to November 9th and our first day. Woke up to 1 degree weather and a wind chill factor of -20 degrees. We started our day basically road hunting just getting our lay of the land. After most of the day We finished our first evening hiking seeing a few bucks no shots but we knew we were on the right track. 2nd morning after 15 minutes leaving the truck me and a buddy were able to put down his first deer ever a little basket rack 4x4. We spent the remainder of the day hiking about 8 miles nice and slow stopping and glassing on knolls. After passing a few smaller bucks we decided to start making our way back to the truck. When we got to about a mile from the truck my buddy caught a glimpse of white on the opposite hillside. A quick look through the spotting scope I knew this was a buck I wanted. We snuck down the hillside and up the other side to 108 yards from this beautiful buck. 1 shot put him down where he stood. After some celebration we radioed my other buddy to tell him the news. He answered with “Don’t tell me you shot a deer?” “Yeah I did he’s a pretty nice one!” He laughs as he just told me he just shot 1 too about 1.5 miles away from us right about the exact same time. As this was his first deer too in about a decade he marked his deer and hiked out to help us with my deer. He showed up just as we finished quartering my deer and helped us pack it to the truck. After that we took a breather at the truck before we made our way to his deer. We showed up to his deer heard his story and got to work quartering it. What an eventful day putting 3 bucks down in 1 day. Didn’t get back to camp til about midnight. Have to give a HUGE shoutout to a member here on this forum who went out of his way to help me plan my trip and gave me some areas I should check out. All in all what a FANTASTIC trip especially getting to help 2 buddies get their first deer/bucks and me shooting my biggest deer to date!

It's the file size. For some reason if they're to big, they load sideways. Take a screenshot of your photo and then post the screenshot. It reduces the file size enough that it works every time.

Congrats!  Love experiencing others' first successes.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
