Precision 22 lr rifles
« on: November 21, 2018, 09:15:32 AM »
Was thinking of getting into precision 22 shooting. Looking into different rifles. Anyone have input on this. The Ruger precision seems to be an option was also looking at the CZ455?

I wouldn't overlook the Tikka T1X.

My dad had an old Mossberg semi-auto target rifle that was very accurate

Sadly, he didn't realize that it was an assault rifle

CZ, Anschutz, would be my top two.
If I found an old heavy barrel trainer, I'd buy that.  Winchester or Kimber 52.
I have an old Anschutz Sporter in 99% condition that I have about $200 invested.
If you get a CZ, research the YoDave trigger kit.
What type of shooting are you doing and what kind of sights?

the old Remingtons were great. There used to be a guy in Olympia that built them, he shot precision matches. His guns were like $5000.00.  My old Remington will not chamber normal 22 shells you must have match ammo 10-20 bucks a box. The matches I saw were:  25 targets on a sheet, the 10 ring was 1/4 inch, the X in the middle of the 10 was 1/8 inch. So the very best score would be a 250 with 25 X's. you shoot once at each target. Ron S. regularly shot 245-247 with 10-15 X. He won a lot. shot at 50 meters. There was a weight limit on the rifles.

CZ would be my vote. My 452 american regularly shoots 5 shot groups at 50 yards that can be covered with a dime with cheap cci blazer ammo.

This will be a scoped rifle. Was thinking I may put a vx6 2-12 on it. Will be shooting out to 300.

Search the rimfirecentral.com forums and maybe even become a member and ask your question to that crowd. They have some great info on .22 lr shooting.

I was going to say the same thing.
Rimfirecentral is a great site.
22lr at 300yds with 12X is quite an experiment.
The trajectory will be like a mortar.
I would get a good 20X, maybe even a fixed-power like SWFA Sniper https://www.swfa.com/optics/riflescopes.html?brand=SWFA%20SS&brand_model=SS+Classic

from what I saw a "dime" size group was nothing a 1/4 inch group was maximum. a puff of wind ruined that.

Try to find a CZ 452 if you can.  I have a couple that are silly accurate when you find the right round.  Both of mine like Federal 510’s which is fortunate.

I have a CZ 455 and it is accurate but not as accurate as the 452’s.  I know it’s a small sample set so do with it what you will...  If one comes up get one.  Even better would be to buy a CZ 453!
