34A Arizona Coues Late Rut Draw Hunt Coming up
« on: December 03, 2018, 08:00:01 PM »
I have a tag in my pocket and I am going to do my best to hold out for a B&C class animal.  It's a decent tag and I have some time.   I shot this deer two years ago on day 2 so I won't be in a hurry this time.

Ur a Ringer!!  :-p  Good on yah.

Course hunting rut helps.  I am thinking about starting to put in for that rather than the mid nov hunts we usually do.  Your hunt modern or Archery?

I just got back from Nov9-15 hunt there.  SW quadrant of 34A.  Heard from a few hunters we passed that the area got hit hard early hunts.  I shot the 1st legal buck I could get my gun the evening of day 2.  I was the only person of 4 in camp to see anything legal.  TONS of does though.  Found a pair of coues sparring down low in flats on day 4, but never got glass to see size before they vanished.

Good luck!

The late rut tags sure are fun, I've had a couple myself.  Look forward to seeing your report!

I'm actually headed down that way today to help my cousin with his sheep tag.  Will be in the desert tonight!

I have the late rifle rut tag, was it your first time hunting coues?

I am sure you are aware, but just in case, make sure you can tell difference between MD and WT thru your scope.  Depending on where you are hunting they are mixed in a bit, easy to make a mistake in the excitement if you stumble on a moving buck.

A Few days after I shot my fork, I was scouting a place to yote hunt and stumbled on a pair of coues sparring, turned back to utv to get better glass.  In the 20seconds they had split up and one vanished because a big MD had come in to see what was going on.  Very impressive seeing the size difference with them within 20yrds of each other.
