Out of state hunting group?
« on: January 07, 2019, 07:03:49 AM »
Anyone interested in putting together a group for an out of state elk hunting camp?  I am specifically thinking of early bow seasons for elk.  I think 4 guys is a good sized group.  The guys I know locally don't wanna hunt out of state.  I am applying in Wyoming with a co-worker.  I still plan to hunt western Washington's bow elk season so I am hoping to work around those dates.  I figure I'll hunt for a week out of state and a week in state.

Here are the states I plan to apply in this year:

Montana
Wyoming (I am applying with a co-worker in this state)
Utah
New Mexico
Arizona (maybe, darn expensive)
Nevada

I have at least 1 bonus point in each state (except NM, no points there) and I have 3 in Montana and Wyoming and 2 in Nevada.

I am up for either a back country hunt or a basecamp and hike in hunt.  It'll depend on where we go.  I am primarily looking at public land.  We'll need to get together a few times to see if we might work out and go on a weekend backpacking trip as a shakedown tour.  I'm going to spend this winter and Spring getting back into backpacking shape so there could be a training aspect we could do together.

Cheers,

Ted

Why not idaho? I’ve been tentatively looking for an Idaho archery partner

I’d be up for Idaho.  I’ve viewed Idaho and Colorado as OTC states so I’ve never put in for points.  Figured I’d just hunt them OTC at some point.

Tornado survivor eh?

Of all the things that could put Port Orchard on the map I didn't think a tornado would be one of them!

I am interested in Oregon, Idaho, and Montana. I have not studied up on their tag system. I am still studying WA regs.

I'd be down for a backcountry archery Idaho elk hunt! I don't have much info on Idaho but can do some research on areas. PM me if anyone is interested for a partner.

I'm doing a back country hunt archery Elk in Idaho this year. Planning on going with my son who is ion the Military in S.C. He might be switching jobs this summer and might not be able to go. The 3 guys I mostly hunt with cant make the trip so I'll probably go solo but never know

I'm going to central Idaho East of Sun Valley. Haven't hunted there for 15 years though, the Wolves took a huge toll on the Deer but they are making a comeback since hunting Wolves opened but the Elk are doing good. We took a few small bulls there in a couple years of hunting there and I missed a 360" with my stick

I would possibly be interested in talking about hooking up

This year will be my second season since moving out west to Washington. I'm also looking to get an out of state hunt this year and looking for a partner or two. I can hunt archery or modern fire arms, back country or from a camp site. Willing to hunt elk or deer or even both. A little bit about myself: I'm retired from the military and have lots of free time. Still do my physical training anywhere from 4 to 6 times a week, so I can definitely hold my own. Already have all of my gear for camp or back country. Drive a 4 wheel drive truck with a topper (So I can do mobile camp also). I'm 50 years old, not afraid of the occasional beer. Have a big enough yard for archery practice and wooded property to put in a decent size home archery range with tree stands, blinds and walking lanes, and one steep hill to shoot both up and down hill. I live about an hour north of Seattle (just outside of Marysville) if anyone wants to get together for some archery practice or just sit down for a beer and talk about hunting the west side of the country (because I'm still cutting my teeth on hunting the wild west), shoot me a message. It's usually just myself and my trusty dog Elvis because my wife is pretty busy with work during the week. Elvis is a 12 year old Weimaraner that doesn't ask for much, just a good nap and the occasional treat. Let me know.    Dave

Are the Idaho tags OTC?

Most of the archery stuff is. The trickier thing to navigate is the zones that are under more restrictive quotas. They're OTC but some sell out in under an hour.

I know that area. If you've not been in there for 15 years be ready for a reality shift, it's a lot busier than it use to be and the age class on bulls is down. Bigger than wolves was the 15/16 winter kill on deer. Most of central Idaho had 70-80 percent mortality and numbers are still a few easy winters away from coming back.
