USCG 100 ton masters license
Wetwoodshunter:
I am currently enrolled in an online course, going straight to my masters 100 ton, and am scheduled to test on February 12th and then hopefully have everything in place to be a relief skipper for some of my friends out in Neah Bay as needed, and my regular work schedule allows.
Any advice on testing or where to focus my attention in this last month. Currently I have been taking loads of coast guard practice tests focusing mostly on rules of the road.
fishngamereaper:
Rules of the road, Nav aids ( cans, nuns, dolphin etc) , lighting (red-green...red, red, red etc) , low viz signals(short burst long burst, bells etc) a little about knots, probably some compass variation/deviation stuff, time/distance/speed, ….I took the course a couple years ago and ended up with my Masters 50 ton. I'll rack my brain a little more and add some more tips as they come to me.
If you study and have a back ground in boating the test isn't really that hard.

I've got my 6-pack and the thing I recall is that that navigation part was very unforgiving - if you only missed two out of 15 or so you failed...? Been a few years, but I remember being stressed about that part. Make sure you're up to speed on it, regardless.
