« on: January 19, 2019, 12:10:39 PM »
At the point of where this decease has gone it has come to the point of the government quits it's delays in approveing programs or we as the hunter and fisherman will have to take our own stand and agree to pay huge fees and taxes for licenceing to support study programs to search for the non-existing cure or that trail I keep bringing up is showing it's end , as we speak ,it's to the point that the hunting in Washington and 49 other states is great ,,,,,,,,,,,, but the meat isn't , it's the end stariring us in the face unless money is no object , I'll bet that's not on our feerless entertaining leaders list at all , sorry just hate that creep

CWD definitely needs to be made a priority and have more emphasis on it than it currently does.  If not, I’m afraid we’re in for a rude awakening.  I shot a doe in Wyoming this last year that tested positive, really wakes you up when you have that happen to you.

What is CWD?

The worst nightmare for deer hunters ever.  I think Steven Rinella has one or two podcasts on the matter, check them out.  it is a real complex disease with no cure and is spreading much quicker than anyone wants to see.  The only way to stop it is to cull the entire deer herd, but the things that cause the disease can live indefinitely in the soil and cause it to come back once deer are reintroduced.

Has there been anything to show a danger for human consumption?

It's a disease caused by prions. Prions are not "living" in the soil per say, because they are not alive (rather they bind to things). This makes it way more terrifying because you can't kill what's not alive and they are basically indestructible. There have been a few studies showing the possibility of it being transmittable to humans through meat consumption, but there is also a possibility that our bodies would not even recognize this prion for decades after consumption and it could just lay dormant without causing disease until recognized.

CWD, chronic wasting disease.  Look up TSE, general term for this complex disorder and CJD for the human form.  Scabbies in sheep, BSE in cattle.  Sorry for the alphabet soup, google them if you wish to better understand a complex issue.  Remember mad cow disease (BSE)?  Bovine cousin of CWD that caused all of the turmoil some years ago.

7 more states since the fall opener this year. Check out this article. Map shows just how fast it has been spreading in recent years.

This is the response I hoped this would get , it's very sad , and could be even worse if it gets to the beef industry , but oh ya ! They got that covered with horemones n pesticides , and several enoculations to make all that sooooooo much better , so don't worry about that  ! Let's eat ! Nope not me can't do it anymore , crap is poison now days , my buddy raises a rump roast every couple of years and I have some rib steak there but that's as close as I get to the crap theses days but anyways happy hunting and oh ya , this decease is just another reason waisting time looking through your cutely mounted Hubble while the critter gets away ,while you make sure your not shooting the walking plaige , but hey ! Get out there and ,,,,,,,,,, shoot a chicken ?
