I agree.  I'm constantly amazed how many people leave firearms in their vehicle (frequently unlocked! :yike:Good for you Woodswalker for having the serial number!  I'd bet that 90 percent of the stolen firearms reports we take, the victim can not provide a serial number.  Write them down and save them!

Extra security in our trucks is something  I have given a lot of thought.
If you shoot and hunt around this state you are going to leave a firearm in your truck at some point.
Traveling around,stopping for gas,food, etc.

Extra security in the truck should be on everyone’s mind. Most of my money I am spending now is for ammo and security every where in my life I have a gun.

I have at times cable locked firearms on the back floor.

Now days it has to be something you think about every day.

Hope you get it back.

If a felon got it and gets caught you won’t get it back for months or years if at all. Until the case against him is complete.

It Was locked to the seat frame...they got the tools from the took bag and pulled the seat frame off the floor. It was locked through the receiver.

I understand the sentiment, but at what point is it the fault of the thief instead of the owners fault?

At some point, we as a society will need to decide if this *censored* can be tolerated or not.  Right now we DO tolerate it.  The reward for the thieves outweighs the risk, EVEN IF CAUGHT, it's a slap on the wrist. Most prosecutors will not invoke the Federal 5 years additive penalty.  If we started stacking them in like cordwood, the rate would go down.  Tough shot if the liberals dont like it.  A zero percent future recidivism rate is achieved by shooting the worst offenders. Three strikes and you are dead?  Might work, but we are too soft and will excuse thieves and cry over their "poor upbringings".

PTUI. *censored*'em.

Sorry Woodswalker, my “fake news” comment was in reference to brush hunter saying you were automatically a felon now.

Sorry this happened to you.

Sorry to hear this, Woodswalker.

I hope you get it back and I hope the scum bag thief gets hard time.

Disappointing that people on this site would assume that your rifle wasn't secured....

Sorry, that really sucks.  For those of you talking about the law and how guns need to be locked up, doesn't a locked vehicle mean the gun is locked up?  This is a serious question.  If a thief wants a gun in a safe, they can eventually get it, if it's locked with a cable lock, they can eventually get it.

Fowl Smacker what you post here makes sense. The law that was past make no sense at all. There lies the problem.

Thieves suck.

The law isn't clear, it doesn't describe what secure storage is.  I guess it is up to the prosecutor to make a call and then convince a jury.
