Didn’t Trump also enact the first gun ban in over 20years?? Made a bunch of law abiding citizens felons by banning a piece of plastic. What a gun rights supporter am I right? Remember when Obama enacted a ban on firearms and came to take them away? Oops sorry it’s the NRA backed candidate that did that.

President Trump and Vice President Pence Make History Once Again at 2019 NRA Annual Meeting
MONDAY, APRIL 29, 2019 President Trump and Vice President Pence Make History Once Again at 2019 NRA Annual Meeting

SUPPORT NRA-ILA
For the second year in a row, a sitting president and vice president both addressed NRA members at the 148th Annual Meetings in Indianapolis on Friday during the NRA-ILA Leadership Forum. This makes the third year in a row that President Trump joined with thousands of NRA members to share his support for our Right to Keep and Bear Arms. His is once again one for the history books. In 2017, he became the first sitting president to attend the Annual Meetings in more than three decades when he addressed the Leadership Forum in Atlanta. The last president to attend the NRA Annual Meetings was Ronald Reagan in 1983.

And just as he did last year, President Trump promised to the cheering, capacity crowd that he will protect the firearms freedom of law-abiding Americans and that recent efforts to restrict the Second Amendment will be staunchly opposed by his administration. Vice President Pence, speaking to many of his fellow Hoosiers, echoed the president’s sentiments, noting to the crowd that both he and President Trump will stand strong against any attempts to undermine our freedom. It is a vital show of support that both the President and Vice President chose to attend the NRA-ILA Forum.

During President Trump’s speech to NRA members, he showed, yet again, just how supportive he is of our rights protected under the Second Amendment. After pointing out that former President Barack Obama had signed the UN Arms Trade Treaty, but that the U.S. Senate had not ratified it, Trump announced that he would officially withdraw the United States from the treaty. The President made clear that he would not abdicate control over the rights of law-abiding gun owners to foreign bureaucrats. He then signed, in front of all in attendance, a formal letter to the Senate requesting that it halt the ratification process and return the treaty to the Oval Office, where President Trump would “dispose” of it. Needless to say, the response from the crowd was overwhelming.

In addition to the President and Vice President, the NRA-ILA Leadership Forum featured speakers from across the country, including elected officials, first responders, veterans, NRA leaders, and freedom-loving Americans from all walks of life. Of significant note, House Minority Whip, Steve Scalise (R-La.), who was seriously wounded by a deranged gunman, stood with and addressed the forum. Please join us in thanking all of the speakers who made the 2019 NRA-ILA Leadership Forum one for the history books.

Guilty as charged.  His DOJ rewrote the regs that banned bump stocks.  I don't like it.  But it is foolish to say that Trump/NRA is worse than obama on guns.  As far as I know, Trump's gun positions have not had a body count, and have not been "under the radar."  Not so for Bronco.

:yeah: One of Hillary's first campaign promises was to enact sweeping gun control. As far as I can tell what Trump did probably wasn't needed and will likely make no difference, but it also has not impacted me or most gun owners.

It's sad.  You can expect any gun control measure to pass by about a 60/40 split, due mostly to the dunderheads in King County, and the rest of the state's apathy.

I cannot fault the NRA for recognizing that and NOT throwing good money after bad.  But that also does not excuse their current internal strife.  Settle it and move on.

It's their failure to file lawsuits to challenge the new laws. Only way to beat a liberal voter base backed by liberal billionaires that will pass any anti-gun bill that comes along is to challenge the laws(s) in court. The NRA has abandoned Washington state.

UUUmmmm, don't lawsuits cost money? If you don't support the NRA how can you complain about not enough lawsuits when they are having financial difficulty?  :dunno:  :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

Col. Allen West statement.

https://theoldschoolpatriot.com/statement-regarding-nra/

There certainly is a power struggle going on. Like some of the other comments posted at the end of this story, I want to see the specifics before I blindly blame anyone in leadership, show me the specifics and I'll make my own decision who to support. In the meantime I will continue supporting NRA, but I would like to see this power struggle ended, it's not doing the organization any good. Give us verifiable specifics on how LaPierre has misguided the NRA or misused NRA funds?

Here is a specific: 1639.

They threw in some symbolic financial support to the opposition but didn't really fight it. I suspect they are giving up on the west coast as part of a financial strategy.

They don't fight like they used to and seem to be poorly managed.
You are not very specific about what the NRA did to help fight I-1639. I personally went to a meeting that they held at the local Red Lion where they were providing signs, literature, and helping with grassroots organizing to get out the vote against it.
I would be interested to hear from you what you specifically know about the NRAs efforts  on I-1639.
The NRA is fighting for our rights all over the country. What do you expect from them?
Maybe you should join and help out. You can help make it the organization you want it to be.

Well for starters they didn't try fighting it in the public sphere. They could have ran commercials about how it defines 22 rifles as assault rifles. Or how it gives the state unlimited access to your medical records. Instead they just sat on their hands with the expectation it would pass. A lot of moderates were duped by pro-1639 commercials and there wasn't an opposition countering them.

They also haven't fought it on the grounds that it violates the multiple clause rule. That is the biggest weakness.

They have been MIA when it comes to Oregon. They have done nothing to counter the anti-AR15 group there.

I think they are burning money internally and choosing to ignore the West coast as part of a strategy. They already gave up on California and it seems like we are next.

Financial difficulty?? They are a “non-profit” whose president was making a million a year in personal salary. Sounds like a pretty profitable non profit.

Unfortunately this seems to happen to most non-profits when they get big.

They give out ridiculous executive salaries and then do constant appeals to their members for more money. Happens all the time.

Don't give to the Red Cross or the United Way for this reason. They are very top heavy and prioritize "administrative costs" over actually helping people.

Fair points.  It happens quite often in large organizations, unfortunately, big government being the most readily apparent example.

Washington: Lawsuit Against I-1639 Proceeds After Motion To Dismiss Denied

On May 20th, the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington rejected a motion by the government defendants to dismiss the lawsuit filed by NRA and the SAF against Washington’s gun control ballot initiative, I-1639.  The lawsuit may now proceed.

NRA and SAF previously filed the lawsuit in November, 2018.  Initiative 1639 classifies ordinary, recreational firearms in common use as “assault” weapons, denies young adults the right to self-protection, and bans the sale of firearms to out-of-state residents.  The provision restricting the Second Amendment rights of young adults went into effect on January 1st, 2019.  The other provisions are set to take effect on July 1st, 2019.

Yea not buying it.

They get plenty of funds from ranges that require membership and if needed those members could pay with checks.

I'm not giving them a dollar and in fact I won't do the NRA round-up when shopping online.

They are basically abandoning West coast states. Their response to 1639 was pitiful. It's actually a Bellevue group that is challenging it in court.

Their current president is terrible at strategy and doesn't get what drives the anti-gun mentality.

*censored*!!!

Sorry, but you are absolutely full of crap.

They are not abandoning the West coast states. The NRA-ILA and the 2nd Amendment Foundation are financially and legally leading the charge in the lawsuit against 1639. And, fortunately, they are doing well.

What pro-2A group do you belong to now? Have you ever been to any of the legislative hearings in Olympia to stand (and/or speak) in opposition to the mountain of bills the flaming *censored* Democrat anti-gunners put forth every year?  I'll bet you have never done it. I'll bet you've never carpet bombed any of your legislators with e-mails and telephone calls.  The NRA was THE ONLY pro-2A group that showed up and organized legislative hearing panels and lobbying efforts. Let that sink in.

I'm so sick and tired of pathetic losers that do absolutely nothing but bitch and whine about the NRA not doing enough for them.

"They'll never get my $35 dollars for an annual membership!"  Really? You can't come up with $35 and maybe donate a $100 every year???  That's only a little over ten bucks a month folks. Good grief.

Get off your lazy, excuse-making butts and do something...and that includes joining and supporting the NRA for starters!

The rest of us that put in the time, money and energy are tired of carrying your water.

Sorry, but you are absolutely full of crap.

They are not abandoning the West coast states. The NRA-ILA and the 2nd Amendment Foundation are financially and legally leading the charge in the lawsuit against 1639. And, fortunately, they are doing well.

Leading the charge? They are filing a lawsuit against the 18-21 aspect of the 1639 which shows they are too cheap to hire a decent legal analyst. A judge can simply erase that part of the bill which then allows the worst aspects (gun registry, access to medical records, pointless class requirement) to stand. They should have filed on the multiple clause rule to overturn the whole thing.

They are abandoning the west coast states by choosing to only file lawsuits instead of fighting the propaganda from the anti-gun side. Most people who voted for 1639 didn't understand it other than "black scary guns bad" and the NRA only contributed a token amount to the opposition. This is what they have been doing in California. Just assume a bill is going to pass and then file a lawsuit. Well a HUGE problem with this strategy is that a lot of the judges are anti-gun and liberal. It's a losing strategy.

The rest of us that put in the time, money and energy are tired of carrying your water.

Do tell why a Treasurer should be paid nearly 3 million dollars
https://paddockpost.com/2015/12/29/10-key-executives-made-7-7-million-at-the-nra/

Carry my water? You are helping pay for some executive's boat payment. This is supposed to be a NON-PROFIT and those executives are clearly profiting. Those salaries are outrageous. A million dollars spent on anti-1639 commercials would have gone a long way. Oh but go ahead and personally attack me for not supporting the NRA yacht club.

I am a NRA Benefactor and all three of my kids are Life members.  I have also told others: not one thin dime of unconstrained money will I donate to the NRA and particularly not even a wooden nickel to the ILA.

There are MUCH better Second Amendment advocates who will not dry shave you every time they are given the chance.  The NRA-ILA staffers are as duplicitous as establishment Republicans, if not more so, and can never be trusted.

Many of them move back and forth between the NRA and government and are as sleazy as the worst deep state operators whose shenanigans are coming to light in other areas.

The NRA gets money and support from us for their education and competitive programs. Period. Full stop.

I am also GOA Life and support the Second Amendment Foundation.

Just being a NRA member counts because their numerical size counts when it comes to Second Amendment issues.  That is where it ends with them at this time though when it is about the Second Amendment.  I wish it were not the case, but wishing doesn't make it not so.

The above having been said:  I have absolutely no use for firearms owners who don't contribute.  I totally understand having been driven away by the LaPierre phone brigade though.  However that is no excuse for freeloading, my inclination is that 9 out of 10 who use that as excuse are simply using it as pretext to sponge off others and are nothing but no loads.

I told the NRA:  Never call me again or mail begging if you ever want to see another dime from me.  I don't hear from them either.

I contribute to their education and competition programs and to others in support of the Second Amendment.

I did the same and bought the life membership and they don’t stuff my mail box anymore and never call. I understand the how irritating the nra can be but Feel strongly all gun owners need to support the nra in some fashion.
