Congrats Dale on what looks like a good spring.  Thanks for sharing your stories!
We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.

That sucks, sorry about the hound, maybe time for a 'No Berger" policy for bears

:yeah: No Bergers or Ballistic tips for close range big game hunting!

Berger bullets were never designed to be a close range bullet.  Next time have them back off to 500 yards. :chuckle:

Thanks, the economy is strong, we've had more turkey hunters than any year since George Bush was president, we'll be busy this fall too.

Started another bear hunt yesterday, we got on this blackie at 50-60 yards around 11am, Bill pulled the trigger, the bear just about flipped over backward and disappeared down the steep canyon. I tried to follow where we saw it go, but saw no blood and no tracks. I figured it went straight down into the creek bottom because it was hit hard, I hit the bottom and started working my way down stream, still no sign at all. I searched all over for nearly an hour then went back up to where we started and where Bill was waiting. I told him I wanted to up the creek drainage further so I angled back down but upstream. I was nearly in the bottom again and I spotted the bear still alive in the creek bottom and mud. The bear was dragging it's back end so I hollered at Bill and he made his way there as quick as possible and finished off the bear. It looked like a wet rat so I just snapped a photo of it alone and headed for the road down canyon. We got it loaded up and headed home. When we got home we washed off the mud with a garden hose and let it drip dry for a while, then took the leaf blower to it and gave it a shag! LOL We got some better photos with clean hair!  :chuckle:

Bill and I went to the taxidermist today to drop off his bear, they have one of the big bear almost done that was killed on our Idaho spring bear hunt last year. The skull measured 20 12/16 and the mount is taller than me. It's a pig of a bear, but I should have taken the photo from a different angle, the bright light made the bear in the photo look darker than the it really is. LOL sometimes I swear I forgot everything I should know about taking photos!  :chuckle:

Two more bear down in Idaho today with the hounds. One was 5-9, the other was 5-8, both a little better than average, both killed by young hunters, their fathers brought them bear hunting. No photos yet, but I'll get them when I can!

From one of our last hunts, Joe brought his son Frankie hunting:

Dogs have been doing great this year, but we had another mishap, one of the best males ripped a tendon so he's out for the season. The hound that got mauled by the bear is doing pretty well but we think he might have a hernia from it, he has a lump on his belly, so it may require surgery, we are watching it closely.

Having a great spring Dale, sorry to hear about the hound with the tendon issue.  Glad the other one is healing up.

Lots of happy faces, and a few candid ones too. What a great year do far. Those dogs sure are getting into the hunting spirit this year. Be safe out there.
