I think buying the point is pretty much a guarantee.

I've always done the preference point and always drawn.  This year I went in with a different group and the leader didn't buy the point so none of us could.  I mentioned that he should call and change his application and buy the point.  He said it wouldn't be an issue and we didn't need the point.  Looks like he was wrong.

I would love to hear if anyone bought the point and didn't draw, my guess is no.

The way I understand it is the preference point is applied before the draw.  Thus, the preference pool is given the tags first and then any left would go to the 0 pt pool.  So, if you don't buy a point your odds aren't great.

Yup.  Something like 75% of non-res tags go to pref point applicants first, then the remaining tags go to non-pref point applicants.

I think the pref point applicants are guaranteed to draw unless the quantity of pref point applicants is greater than 75% of the non res tags allocated.

Last year we didn't draw with zero pref points.  This year we paid the extra $50 for 1 pref point and our party drew.

Now to figure out where we want to hunt this go around.

I don't get the logic of shelling out $1k but not adding $50 to it to more than double your odds of drawing unless you are only looking at going every 2-3 years.

We bought the preference point and didn't draw. Guessing more Washington hunters are going east making it harder to draw.

Did you guys do the deer/elk combo again this year?  Didn't you have a point from not drawing last year?

10th year in a row that I’ve drawn and I’ve never purchased the preference point.  Apparently I’m lucky in MT, which makes sense since I never draw $&*# in WA so it averages out.  I had 3 friends not draw though😞.

Yes on the deer elk combo. Dont think we bought the point last year, but bought one this year. I have a group of friends that have drawn every year since 2010. Guess we're just not that lucky.

Interesting.  Sorry about your luck but don't feel as bad not buying the point and not getting drawn.  Sounds like even if we had we may not have drawn.

I feel like I just looked at my Washington tags " Not Selected ".

Side question if I didn't draw deer can I still apply for Antelope  ?

Yes, looks like Antelope deadline is June 1 along with B tags

We drew deer combo.  Party of 2, both of us had 1 pref point.

Did anyone draw who did not have a pref point?

Yep. First time app big game combo selected. Now I just have to figure out where to go.
