I finally drew an elk tag!!!! I drew the Observatory rifle bull tag. I can't wait to get scouting.

You'll be surprised where you can find bulls in that unit.  In the low bitterbush and the higher timber. Get a bunch of people scouting for you.

Sept or late hunt?  I drew Sept two years ago.  It was tough.  You can see elk anywhere in those units any time, but the early and late are much different hunts.  Early season I wouldn't waste any time lower than Manastash Lk.

I saw a herd as low as Durr Rd with a huge bull a few years ago during General Deer.  My son and I saw a big bull mount a cow in North Fork Manastash Canyon near the Robinson Canyon gate during General Elk.  I don't try to make predictions on elk movements in that area, but I would hunt high.  The low land is tempting because of visibility, but the elk density is low.  I got good advice from the game department.  They track collared elk.

I have Made a couple scouting trips now. I haven't seen many elk but have found a few spots that look good.

I drew the same tag but Quality Archery, haven't done any scouting but ill send you a report if I find any good areas.

I drew this same tag in 2011. General bull. There are some big bulls in there. Good luck!!
