Well beginning of this turkey season was frustrating for myself, scouting before the season I located a several toms with a bunch of hens in some open country that I thought I could get on pretty easily opening weekend, well long story short guys busted the birds off the roost and pushed them across the creek and I didn't have any birds come close for several days besides some hens. Then one day my brother and I thought we could hide behind some sage brush that we thought was tall enough from watching these birds, so the next morning roles around and to our surprise the sage brush was short and messed that hunt up. After that hunt my brother was pretty much done with turkey season so I said screw it im gonna pull out the layout blind and show these birds what they least expect, well as I was walking up to where I was going to set up I see turkeys running up the hill in the dark with the lights from a farm house behind the hill, well I screwed that up so I end up going home and checking the weather for the next day and saw the wind was supposed to be howling (gusts up to 35) so the next morning I sneak in and set up where I have been seeing this tom strut every day and let me tell you I never knew how loud it is to brush in a layout blind when you have to be quiet, jjjeeessuuusss I could wake up the dead with how loud it was. But I got it done and set out the stuffer and my hand carved hen decoy I made set out at 20yds, laying there I got worried I busted the birds off the roost until I heard the tom gobble on the roost! thank god now its just a waiting game, so laying there I couldn't figure out if they were coming my way so I looked down at my phone to check the time and all I hear is flop of turkey wings, the 2 jakes are in beating my decoy up now its just wait for the big boy to come play, next thing I know a hen walks by at 10 feet and didn't even notice the blind. Then the big boy arrives flops the decoy a couple times and faces away from me, I sit up put the bead on him as the jakes putt and run away, he's still strutting and finally turns and sees me and jumps straight in the air and boom, dead turkey flying. By far the coolest hunt I have done for turkeys and will hopefully doing it again next year
