Idaho Legal Muzzleloader Bullet Recommendations
« on: June 30, 2019, 06:58:16 PM »
I luckily drew an Idaho Muzzy Antelope tag this year and I'm looking for some ideas on bullets that are legal to use on my hunt.

I have a Knight 50 caliber Disc Extreme & a Bighorn I’ll be taking on the hunt. Due the tighter bore, in the past I have had problems finding bullets that easily fit down the barrel. I've shot power belts in the past but not sure I want to use them on the hunt.

Thanks for your suggestions?

I use a Bull Shop .503x460 (for your tight Knight you would probably want a .502) lead conical but I really do not think that might be what you would want to use.

You might look at the Parker lead bullet selections - he probably has something that would be more realistic for antelope.

Well shoot - not really sure any of these are what you might want either.

So I would go back to Bull Shop Bullets.

This is a very old picture of some of his offerings - + he will size them to your needs..

Follow this link it will give a much bigger selection of bullets

https://bullshop.weebly.com/-50-caliber-cast-bullets.html

I have purchased .503x350 lead from him in the past - they are a very good bullet and would be great for deer/antelope

You can email Bullshop Dan and make an inquiry - he is not much of a computer guy but his wife is and will get back to you.

Keep shooting muzzleloaders - They are a blast!!

Wanted to post an update on my bullet selection for my Idaho Antelope Muzzy Hunt. As Sabotloader recommended I contacted The Bull Shop. I bought their sizing pack. They sent me a 5 bullet pack of varying diameters so I could get the best fit for my finnicky Knight Muzzies. I decided to go with a .503 diameter custom MM (mountain molds I think) bullet in 350 grain.

My bullets came in about a week & off to the range I went. I found the .503 was too tight to load so I reordered the same bullet in .502 diameter. (I reread Sabotloader’s post & somehow missed the part he suggested this size. My bad). I also reduced my powder charge from 110 to 100 of T7.

The .502 diameter custom MM loaded great in my Disc extreme. I did get good groups at 100 yards for me & decided to limit my range to that distance. Here is a pic of the .502 custom MM bullet I used.

The hunt. I scouted the day before the opener & only saw 4-5 goats on public. In the past I had seen over a 100 in the same area but later in the season. I spoke to a guy at the Sporting Goods in Challis & he suggested the Antelope were still higher where the feed was better.  I had forgotten how open this country was & thought there is no way I’d get close enough for success. Well I guess there was one young buck that didn’t get the message the season opened on 9/25. When I first spotted him he was over 500 yds away. He just kept getting closer & closer until he got within my 100 yd limitation. I waited until there was a gap in the sage & he stopped at about 90. Then Bang!! A huge cloud of smoke & after it cleared. Nothing!! I walked over & this is what I found.

Congrats! They do make that open country interesting to hunt. I was a few units south of you reacquainting myself with just how frustrating the little buggers can be.
