Master Hunter St. Helens Tags 2019 - Other Members?
« on: July 01, 2019, 08:28:11 AM »
Hey, just wanted a meet and greet for anyone who drew the st helens cow tags for MH tags this year.

I know at least one of you is on here.

Chat?  Hang out?  BBQ at windy ridge?

Should be an easy hunt but I'm hoping to take a friend and their kid with us on an overnight hunt as an excuse to look at bulls and soak up the environment before taking a nice cow (thats the plan at least).

Nice tag. I didn't apply for any this year. I'll have to remember that for next year. Good luck, Stang.

Yeah pumice plains.

Expecting a pretty easy hunt. Just thought it might be fun to connect on here before we went.

There may also be the other St. Helens hunts going on at the same time. We may see each other in the parking lot.

I think we’ll camp one or two nights for the weekend in the windy ridge parking area. As long as it’s not too windy. Lol

If i get this tag again I would play the weather. I've been in there when the rain was torrential and most of the elk stayed bedded on the hillside just out of the hunt area. It also makes a tough river crossing in the dark with an elk on your back. Fun seeing a bunch of bulls but can get frustrating when all you need is a cow lol
what in the wild wild world of sports???

Interesting point.

I just remember looking down there in the first week of october on my bull hunt last time in upper smith creek and it looked like a barn yard.  there were elk everywhere.

I suppose bad weather could make it difficult as it is fairly exposed down there.  We saw some of that too while we were up there last.

Thanks for the heads-up.

I drew it maybe 4 years ago, have since let my MH status expire.  Mine started Oct 17 if I remember correctly.  Bulls were still bugling.  After the hike in took all of an hour to kill my cow.  I brought a pair of hip wader to cross the Toutle with.  Once across tossed them to my partner to cross.

I drew that hunt in 2011.  There was nothing easy about it.  Except for shooting an elk, then the work began.

I would agree.  The hike/pack out was horrible.  Lack of sleep and the 2.5 mile hike out all up hill did a number on me.  Two trips to get the elk out was all i had in me that day.
