I hunted it for the first time in 2007, and the last time in 2016. The elk numbers seem to have dropped off or they just started hiding better because of the increase in pressure. We saw elk every year we hunted it, killed one nice bull missed opportunities on a few more. We spent most of our time on the south side of the unit. Iím wouldnít call it a waste of time but I also havenít been up there in a few years. Maybe make a trip or two to scout this summer and see if you can find anything.

Stampede also gets a fair amount of tribal pressure

Killed a 2 good bulls in there the last few years, 1 Archery and 1 Muzzy. Its a tough unit like folks have said, gets a ton of pressure from all 3 weapon groups. I focus on springs in stands of older timber or very small benches near water. I don't go any where near roads or clear cuts and call very sparingly

With that said I'm not hunting there this year

I hunted it for a couple days last year. Found a few elk but it was so steep it took us 4 hours to go a quarter mile down a hill and back up through a thick jungle hell with cliffs. Lots of people driving on the roads and Indians walking around with bugles and rifles. Got attacked by hornets twice and ran off the road twice. The clear cuts arenít very clear.

We archery hunted it last year for the first time and got on some bulls. My brother called one in to bow range just to have someone shoot it out from under him with a rifle so you have to be careful. Natives rifle hunt this unit during bow season

So native have an open rifle season in 466 the same time as general archery? Or are they poaching?

Muckelshoots tribe, and it's not a "rifle season," but they're free to hunt with anything they want. They don't have to follow any of our seasons or regulations.
