WAY off Topic at First - but on Topic in the end
« on: July 18, 2019, 11:05:34 AM »
The other day I was just dinging around and actually conversing with a guy at Lehigh - he asked me if I would like to try a new bullet they were building for Umarex.  What's Umarex I asked? it is a pellet gun! Well my interest kinda dropped in a hurry - pellet gun! What am I going to do with a .17 pellet!  Then he says it is a .510x238CF sabotless copper bullet!  WHAT!!!  Anyway I was a bit worried about the size .510 going down a ML bore, but that turns out to be OK also.

So I looked up the 'Pellet Gun' online - it does exist and it is 50 cal. And it is used for hunting - who would know.

The sample bullets arrived yesterday. So I did some checking this morning - I think they will work

The drive barbs are .510 and the top band around the bullet is .502 - so they might actually work

I have a little concern about trying them in my .501 bores but in the .502 Wolverine and the .504 White - they shouldn't be a problem.

So hopefully I will get out to the farm and run a few through the Wolverine - They might really be good ML deer bullets???

They are 238 gr. om my scale... the thing is the way the bullet is cut this could be a very low recoil bullet for younger shooters at a reduced range. Yet they will also work at high velocity for us old fogies.

I think Lehigh said 1000 fps to 3000+.

If they will load and shoot I will find out more.

Here is a video

I wish there wasn't as much advertising in it - but in the end it is exciting

Tagging along to see how this turns out.  Light recoil, 50 cal bullet for muzzy deer is sounding great for my youth hunters.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

That is exactly what I am thinking...  Because of the slit petals the bullet will operate a lower velocities.  You will not have to shoot this bullet at a high velocity as long as you maintain enough velocity and energy within the given range.

I hoping the winds that we are having today will be gone tomorrow so I can get out and shoot it for the first time.

Cool.

Looks like an updated version of the air rifle Lewis and Clark had.
Apparently animals don't care if the bullet is driven by burning powder or comprressd air.
