I think he is asking why the harvest numbers for GMU 346 are SO LOW, other than the fire.

But, I have been wrong before...

Yes, in GUM 346.

Show up Friday before the opener and it will be rather obvious why spikes and elk in general head well away from roads.

Wolves and predators are the first issue. Second way to many people hunting off dirt bike and atvs.

Wolves in 346? I was under the impression that there aren't any established packs south of I-90 yet.

346 is one of the areas that had a 75% or so reduction in tags due to the mystery of low bull numbers but ok total herd numbers.

Overall, you won't find any areas in WA with very high public land success rates.  In general, elk hunting in the US has low success rates and WA is likely below the average due to smaller herds and more hunters than other states.

If you add antler restrictions, limited road hunting, hard hiking for long distances to access much of the unit and limited areas to glass due to terrain and trees (pre-fire anyway) and couple that with stupendous pressure during general seasons and high non-hunter use (hikers, atv's, etc) and you aren't going to see high success.

Yes I ment to say SO LOW....sorry...Not many bulls killed and the hunting group I used to go with b4 i want archery saw about 75% less bulls during the modern firearm season then they normally do. One guy in MY old group has gotten a spike in 346 EVERY SINGLE SEASON FOR THE LAST 21 YEARS!!! (modern FA) yet didn't get one last season!!!  Gmu 346 is the best unit on the east side in my opinion.  I've seen elk there every day during the season.  Ther is a guy in my old group that went a whole day with out seeing a single elk the will day during the modern FA season!!!  Now thats weird to not evean see one elk the whole day. Somthing very odd went on in 346 and I wish I knew????

I can only imagine what that unit would be like if the yakimas actually had a limit to the amount of deer and elk they could kill each day.
