skook youth tag
« on: August 24, 2019, 10:52:39 AM »
I'm just curious if other folks have had much success filling these outside of the Vail tree farm.  My twin boys drew this tag this year and are excited to get out there and get after it, I know access to the tree farm will be limited to 1 day this year for the youth hunters so I'm looking at some other options in the unit, it looks like a good chunk of forest service land on the eastern half that I'll be checking out as I think we will need to fill probably one of the tags outside the tree farm.

We scouted that area a bit a few years ago when in a similar situation.

The NF seems pretty much all overgrown and thick. The roads were really bad in places with some washouts that closed some roads down. Didn't seem to be a lot of deer or sign, but I'm sure there are niches if you look long enough.

There is some private timberland near the highway that looks more productive and might be my 1st choice to check out in that area.

Best of luck.

Well they confirmed today that they are giving the youth one day to hunt if they don't have the permit.  Kind of a bummer and disappointing for the kids.

Are tags for antlerless or buck?

Not out of the question to get 2 in a day off the tree farm by any means, imo.

Just saw this. Are you still looking for a spot into the skookumchuck gmu? Any chance you guys have mountain bikes? I have a couple of spots out there I would be willing to share to some youth hunters. Pm me if still interested.
