Not worth going now for me at least

Jeez

Action: Reduces the daily limit for coho salmon to one.

Effective date: Monday, Sept. 23, 2019.

Species affected: Coho salmon.

Locations: Marine areas 5 (Sekiu and Pillar Point), 6 (East Juan de Fuca Strait), 7 (San Juan Islands) 8-1 (Deception Pass, Hope Island, Skagit Bay), 9 (Admiralty Inlet), 10 (Seattle/Bremerton Area), 11 (Tacoma-Vashon Island), and 13 (South Puget Sound).

Reason for action: Since early September, state and tribal co-managers have been assessing coho runs throughout Puget Sound waters. Preliminary information indicates that returning coho have a smaller body size and potentially lower-than-expected run sizes to many systems. WDFW is implementing this rule as a precaution to ensure escapement and hatchery goals are met.

Salmon rules by area:

Marine Area 5: Sept. 23 through Sept. 30: Daily limit 2; up to 1 coho may be retained. Chinook min. size 22”. Release chum, wild coho, and wild Chinook.
Marine Area 6: Sept. 23 through Sept. 30: Daily limit 2; up to 1 coho may be retained. Chinook min. size 22”. Release chum, wild coho, and wild Chinook.
Marine Area 7: Sept. 23 through Sept. 30: Daily limit 2; up to 1 coho may be retained. Chinook min. size 22”. Release chum and Chinook.
Marine Area 8-1: Sept. 23 through October 31: Daily limit 2; up to 1 coho may be retained. Release pinks and Chinook.
Marine Area 9: Sept. 23 through Sept. 30: Daily limit 2; up to 1 coho may be retained. Chinook min. size 22”. Release chum, Chinook, and wild coho.
Marine Area 10: Sept. 23 through Nov. 15: Daily limit 2; up to 1 coho may be retained. Release Chinook.
Marine Area 11: Sept. 23 through Sept. 30: Daily limit 2; up to 1 coho may be retained. Chinook min. size 22”. Release Chinook.
Marine Area 13: Sept. 23 until further notice: Daily limit 2; up to 1 coho may be retained. Chinook min. size 22”. Release wild coho and wild Chinook.

Wow, the good news never stops.  Where were they when the pink run exploded the other direction?

We now get penalized for “potential” run sizes and somehow the weight of the fish.  Come on.

Why did I just literally buy my salt water license 2o min ago?  Well, the kid and I are going to try it off a beach in the morning.

Since early September they were concerned, but as recent as three days ago they opened the nets back again in area 7 (second time in September) with an emergency order?  Wow, big surprise it only impacts sport fishermen.  Maybe if they had some actual data instead of "potentially" and "in many systems" we would actually think they are doing their job.

Last week or so, the fishing has been better than I have ever seen it, we are averaging over one fish per rod in many areas which doesn't seem to be an indicator of a small run.  You can't hardly go anywhere in area 10 without having the graph full of fish.

I keep debating about buying a new boat.  Hard to justify with seasons like this.

You and me both.
Hard to justify but at the same time it’s so enjoyable the times you are out there. This year had some extremely frustrating closures. (Area 7 in August being one of them)
Unfortunately the seasons seem to ebb and flow. All a matter of what some time on the water is worth I guess.

Skunked from the beach today.  But saw a bunch caught. Upside is my kid is getting much better at casting and it was a great time. Nothing better than 6 am jerky.

Hooked two. Buddy caught a really nice ubr, had to release. I ended up with a little keeper silver. Checker said we were only ones with a fish. Or the only ones that shared 😉🥃🇺🇸

Blacklab, what area were you fishing? I saw lots of boats getting their fish checked by the WDFW  at GG. The young lady said a person in a kayak checked a 13lbers but wasn’t in the derby. We fished 10 in the morning then headed over north of Apple tree to 9 in the afternoon and the fish were biting left and right, only thing was they were wilds, I released a total of 6.
