Got my 4 wheel drive fixed today.
Got the chains for it too.

The slider gear that connects up the axle stub on passenger side was froze up. The retaining washer and c clip was screwed up ,causing the axle to move around.

So hopefully I'll be able to find some time, and take the boy out here. Depending on quotas and what not. After the first of year.

4 wheel drive has been broken since late buck season.
Everybody needs to go hunt cougar.
We need more people predator hunting.👍

Hope you can get after them, 399. Looks like good conditions on the dry side tomorrow!

Just posted story number RS24... Dave, in South Dakota got another one! His 4th!

Of course, he called cold (which I advise not to do unless you're out of options) on a spot that worked in the past (which I advise is a bad way to pick a stand location) and just WORKED one right in!

Once you say one thing, another thing works!

A good podcast on hunting cougars without dogs.

Happy New Year!

Good Podcast! South Dakota-centric and he doesn't use vocals, but some real good stuff!

Figured I'd give this topic a bump......bump....

I've been out a handful of times since fall season has opened.
Haven't seen much talk on here about it.
With who knows what will happen with our cougar season.
Id think people would be more proactive this year in regards to calling cats.

I was out yesterday on a stand, 3 hours I let the foxpro call.
First hour I was doing the 3min/pause for 2/min.
Second hour/ 5/5 five minutes call, five on mute.
Third hour/ screw it,changed sound ,just let it play constantly.
Since nothing was happening anyway.

Plenty of crows circling, hawk even came screeching in.
Blue  jays squeaking, all that.
So I'm not sure if my volume was just too loud.
Didn't seem bad,if you got crows around checking it out.

This time of year just seems tough. Fawns are still a plenty.
Lots of small game to be had for a predator.

The only reason to comment 3 hours ,was this pic I got.
I know one is around from time to time. Just can't seem to get it to come. Or not the right spot, right time.
Just no luck I guess.
I probably should of left after an hour.
Won't go back for a week or so,over called that area I think.
3 hour on one call set,you know your in to win, little much maybe.

So anybody else been giving it a go?

Just posted RS25...

On this page:  https://rain-shadow.com/cougar-calling-stories-1

This one just happened!

It's a long story, but Jeff did a very good job writing it up and it really shows the use of the networked trail camera in real time, so I wanted to leave the whole thing there. Wish I could post pics in with the story on my new website,  but these pages are getting so huge that the site can't handle it.

It's Call-in Story Page 1, about 1/3 of the way down. Look for RS25. Another BIG BIG Tom for Jeff!

That's a crazy one. I think cougars kill more coyotes than we realize. I heard one get killed by a cougar last year. I could hear a coyote scream and gurgle then go silent while I was deer hunting. 2 days later I was hunting deer in that exact spot and watched 2 does snort wheezing and stomping at the tree line for 2 hours until it got too dark to see. 2 more days go by and my buddy killed a cougar in there 40 yards from him while he was watching for deer. The cat was curious and was walking in to check him out and he caught it out of the corner of his eye. It was a small female 90-100lbs.

I don't think they're afraid of the Canine, I think they're intimidated by the dog's enthusiasm, not the dog itself.

They hate the noise. I used 1 or 2 blabber mouthed hounds and caught  many cats with no problems. Silent dogs usually got into trouble.
