Poaching in Cowiche and Rimrock?
« on: October 31, 2019, 12:39:56 AM »
Was talking with an old timer who owns land up in these areas and he said that a warden told him that they just busted 2 poachers that were killing 10 elk per week for a long time. I’m curious if anyone has heard anything about this or has this gentleman been cooped up in his cabin for too long and just needed to talk to someone. Thanks!

If this is true it will more than likely end up in the Yakima Herald.

And if it is true and they know he's been doing it for that long were they waiting until they had nothing better to do before arresting him.

I doubt they drug their feet on such a prolific poacher unless they didn't have the evidence yet. The LE for DFW are good at their jobs. It's their former bosses that were the problem. Hopefully, that's changed.

I am interested to see what comes of this (if its true) as it is common knowledge in that area that poaching is rampant.

That's a lot of elk to get rid if without anybody noticing or hearing' I know the road and gate is open over the road to Tampico. Throw them in a pick-up and they are gone. That's about the only place left that there are any elk left. Sad  :yeah:

Saw 3 WDFW enforcement trucks heading up behind Rimrock on Friday. They looked like they were on a mission?

Hope he's misinformed.  I live right in the middle of the cowiche GMU and it's not common knowledge to me that poaching's rampant. Haven't heard hardly any gun shots all season.

You know I hate to say it but we wouldn't hear about for a week or two. They aren't the best source of news around Yakima.
Back to the subject hunted Cowiche area with a bunch of people and hadn't heard of this. Hope if true they catch them

Poaching is rampant in 368. But those numbers are ludicrous. Old timer needs to check his meds

Wow. If true I hope they hammer these guys.

I'm thinking he is trying to discourage people from hunting there. :twocents:

I hunt the 368 like crazy. There's definitely poaching being done. But the biggest impact on those animals are natives. Not that I have any problem with them but they put a good hurting on both the deer and elk in there. Just this passed week with rut going they was a muckleshoot up hunting deer and doing good.
