Buying a new Tahoe. Dave Smith or somewhere esle?
« on: November 19, 2019, 11:20:09 AM »
I am replacing my Wife's Tahoe with a new one.  It will be a cash deal.  I am just wondering if I should just go to Kellogg and find the one we like?  Are they truly no haggling?  Or should I look elsewhere and try to haggle for a better deal?  What do you think?!

Dennis Dillion also in ID. Between those two you probably won’t find a better price.

I'm an Eastsider and don't need much of an excuse to head East on I-90.  But if there is a better deal to be had, that's fine too.

I did Dave Smith and picked out the rig I wanted and the price I was willing to pay before I ever drove over to get it.  I was happy with the price and experience.  During negotiations the rig that I wanted came up as a one day only internet deal for a few hundred less than what we had negotiated to.  When I realized that I offered them $200 less than that for trying to sell it out from under me and they took it, said it was a clerical error.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

Just bought a new truck, Saturday, from George Gee in Liberty Lake and I was pretty happy with how things went with them.

I live an hour away and say elsewhere.  I have tried twice to buy from those crooks each time that "one advertised" had sold by the time I got to Kellogg...Again I live 1 hour away.. Bull.  But both time they had a nice model for just a few grand more.  Bait and Switch.

Buddy of mine had a terrible experience with Dave Smith..they failed to report some vehicle history stuff and when confronted they said to bad .it's your truck now....based on his experience I will never go there.

For starters they will haggle, every place will and if you don’t you’re leaving money on the table.

And in my experience they are crooks and don’t stick to their word. I know some people have had good experiences there. In dealings with sales staff and management alike they have been downright dishonest.

I’ll be spending my money elsewhere.

I just bought a truck in Canada and it worked out very well, saved a ton.

Might be a little trickier with new vehicles (not sure the warranty transfers country), but otherwise it was pretty simple and I saved thousands.  Worth a look, especially as a cash buyer.

If you want new and the warranty that comes with, you might be better at home.

Like others have said, they are crooks. I'd go elsewhere based on my experience in 2014.

Might even check Costco.  :twocents:

Just tell the local dealer you’re also shopping at Dave Smith. They’ll probably do a lot to earn/keep your business. They better anyway.
Dealers don’t make much money on individual new vehicle sales. The money is in volume.

My thought is buy local....this time of year there are the best factory incentives and dealers need to make deals and move iron.

Costco or TrueCar. The last car we bought TrueCar beat the Costco price by about $500.00

I had a great experience with Dave Smith when I bought my Ram 3500 Diesel Crew cab in 2017. The entire deal was done over email and phone. They came to the Spokane airport picked me up and had paperwork ready when I got there. Went on a test drive and one of the tires had a shake from improper balance and sitting in a field for who knows how long. Took a while to get through the shop, but I was on the road and home to western Washington by 10pm. Saved more than the Costco program, and as far as some local dealers, they are not as friendly as Dave Smith! Just my   :twocents:
