Have you ever seen a coyote walk on 2 feet? Recorded these videos today. I would guess he got hit by a car and lost the use of his hind end to some degree. Dang, they are resilient.

Crazy, three legged animals, never something like that.

Is this close to a urbane area?

Yes, this is basically in Spokane near Hwy 2.

Probably eating lots of urban pets, and easy animal food.

Probably wouldn’t be doing so well out in the wilderness.

Great video!

Golly those things are tough, and just carry on life with what they have to work with.  Impressive.

A somewhat similar coyote helped his mate raise her litter of pups near our house one spring.  One of his hind legs had been cut off almost totally where it joined his pelvis, connected by one string of tendon.  My guess is that eventually it wore out and fell off.  It would flop around and usually flip up over his back when he ran.  It dried out and shrunk somewhat over the time span we observed him.

At first we saw him and his obviously pregnant mate in the alfalfa field by our house, then only him for a couple of weeks, then the two of them again when the pups got old enough for her to leave while she hunted.  During the time she was with the pups the 3 legged male hunted mice most of the day to feed her and the pups.  I have some old pics of him somewhere, pre-digital.  In mid-summer I mentioned him to our neighbor who indignantly said I should have shot him because he had killed every chicken they had.  I didn't know he was poaching their chickens or would have shot him!

Almost to the Yukon border in Northern BC I called in a coyote with one foot cut off above the wrist.  She limped quite a bit but came in across a rock stream bed to within 15 feet of me.  I was trying to call a grizzly with prey distress and just watched her rather than shot her.  Have also shot a few with toes missing, but this video of the dead leg coyote is a rare glimpse of nature.

My son puts the trail cams on the gut piles after dressing off the deer. On his property there arevtwo female coyotes that are missing front legs. One has her left front leg gone and the other has her right front leg gone.
Coyotes hunt for each other and can get by for years with these substantual injuries.

The two coyotes on my sons property have been there for atleast three years and maybe before that. Three years ago he started setting his trail camsbup on the gut piles.

Amazing critter. I doubt that he's been recently wounded. He's learned how to use two legs pretty well. I bet it's been a while, even maybe from birth.

That's crazy. Just leans forward so the front legs can take over. He looks like he is very used to it.
