Sell or trade in bows?
« on: December 13, 2019, 04:51:36 PM »
Been wanting to get to just 2 bows so I'm thinking of selling our trading in (if possible) 3 of my existing ones and keeping the 4th. Then getting a new one and setup with the same arrows and release. That way won't have 4 releases and 3 or 4 different arrows setups. So would it be better to sell outright, consignment at shop, or trade in? Bows in question are Elite 2009 z28 60#, Elite 2013 hunter 60#, Mathews Creed 70#. All opinions appreciated.

The bow I'm keeping is PSE Vendetta xl 70# and I would like a longer A2A than the other ones, something like 34".

If you want to get money out of them it’s always better to sell them yourself. If you sell them yourself, you’re selling st retail, but it takes more time & effort. If you trade them in you’re selling at wholesale, but it’s faster & easier.

Archerytalk.com is a good place to sell a bow.  Otherwise you could try the consignment route at a bow shop if they will take it.  Maybe on the promise that when they sell you will buy a new bow from them.

That is my train of thought for consignment. I don't want to be shipping bows, in person sale preferred.

Archerytalk or similar forum is your very best bet IMO. If you can find a shop that will consign thats an option, but can be a slippery slope for both parties. My observations on consignment programs at most shops is they dont last long.

I agree with what has already been said.

Out of curiosity, why do you have 4 bows?

Definitely at least worth a try to sell on here or local (craigslist / offerup) to get more $ out of it.  It does take a little while but I even sold a lefty!

Jrebel - I will answer for him - because he can!  :yeah:

Great answer......thanks for your quality contribution to this post.   Now that we got that taken care of, maybe I can be more specific with my question.  Do you use each one for a different style of hunting, backups or do you just like bows?  No sarcasm, no disrespect intended just curious.  Thanks

I’ve sold three bows on hunt wa classifieds. Always had good dealings buying and selling on here. Put up an add and see what happens. I’ve also sold a bow on eBay as well in the past, that worked out fine too, though eBay is going to take their cut as well.

PSE is the only one I bought new, bought a different one, carbon tech, and it was a little harsh to draw. Read about some Elite's that were smoother drawing and went to 60lbs so got the 2013 Hunter used and looked it. Then saw the z28 for decent price and it had a good following so picked it up for a backup bow. Started having trouble holding the PSE steady on target. Then decided I wanted a Matthews and it needed to be a single cam so the Creed was bought. Used it as my main bow for last couple years but it is a little stuff to draw right before the valley. I actually also have an old Hoyt rebel xt round wheel bow in closet with a broken string. They just accumulated I guess. 🤔🙂

I'm want to use a hook style release and it is shorter than the caliper ones I've been using so got the PSE set to longer draw length to use with the hook release and I find I like that bow better now, holds steady and I get good anchor and nose contact with string. Getting more modules or cams for the others will be difficult I think, except the Mathews. So wanting a second bow with longer a2a, 34 or so. Could keep the Mathews and get longer module I suppose. Already lengthened it once.
