Lion tracks
« on: December 14, 2019, 05:23:55 PM »
I thought I would start a thread to document the amount of lion sign we are seeing in the woods. Whether it be tracks or trail cam pics feel free to share.

I didn't take pics of the first two tom tracks I cut but I'm going to try to document all the cat tracks I find.

1st tom 50 inch stride. Track was fairly fresh with a little snow in the track. Crossed Rd off property I have permission onto another place. This cat was 250 to 300 yds from a house

2nd tom 40 inch stride. Spotty snow conditions tried calling no luck

3rd tom 44 inch stride. I cut it today 2 day old track

1st female 30 inch stride. Cut it today day old track crossed Rd onto same property as the big tom

Cut probably 5 bobcat tracks

Saw only one moose track in 4 days!

Are those wolf tracks ?
We looked them over and thought for sure they were lion
If so you yup Im stoopid
Sorry

I can't definitively say it was a wolf, could be a couple dogs trotting down the road, but if you were way back away from people there's a good chance it was wolves.

good chance it could be domestic dog too, they tend to trim nails back so you see less imprint from toe nails, and I think that confuses a lot of people when then don't see toe nails they think its automatically cougar

Hey no worries!
wolves feet tend to splay out or spread apart,  especially in the winter months.

In summer they seem to make a tighter track unless its a really heavy one,  but I've seen wolf tracks spread way out like snow shoes in the snow making them very wide and big in the snow.

kinda like water dogs have webbed feet,  wolves feet spread wide

and now back to lions!

Top 5 maybe top 3 biggest tracks I've cut. Hope to cut it again and I'll take pictures with tape measure. With little to no hound hunting in over 20 years I don't think big toms are that uncommon around here. Pretty impressive seeing one of them or even just their tracks. I will always remember the first giant Tom I ever put in a tree. We treed that cat twice in 2 years both times during chase season. Next year a menonite lucked out and caught and killed it just to sell the hide.
