Lever Actions - show em’
« on: January 15, 2020, 08:14:42 PM »
Just picked up a new Marlin 1895 in 45-70. Installed a Wild West guns trigger, aluminum follower and one piece extractor. Putting a 2.5X fixed Leupold scout scope in quick detach rings up front. Garrett 550 grain hard casts.  That bullet will pile drive through a lot of bear flesh or concrete walls if required.

Plan to do some restoration work on my great grandads old 336 30-30 this winter.

Dang these things are fun.

Man....I really like the leather you have on yours.  Where did you find that, or did you have to special order it?

Looks like I have catching up to do. Eventually like to get a 44 mag. Interesting research on marlin when I was looking for this 1895. I didn’t realize Marlin was bought up by Remington then suffered a bunch of quality issues. Sounds like they have the production system working now and putting out some better product.

Goodish pic of the old 336.  Resting on a log kinda like your 1895.

They have a whole new facility and new machinery for their marlin line.  Still a few reports of issues but for the most part they seem to be turning out quality products now.  My .357 and .444 are from their new facility and are fine guns, no complaints.  But there were some really bad years there.

Savage made the best back then. 250-3000 that I restored from my girlfriends family on the Rez. Completely restored every piece and did some fancying up. Last part is finding someone that’d color case that lever. My 336 is on my bench being brought back after my brother sold it off like 10+ years ago and it found its way home.
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short.

Amen

Here’s mine. Model 99 in 300 savage, fixed 4x weaver scope. Bought in 1985 at age 11 from the local pawn shop in Auburn. Paid $107.50. Yes, I remember that like it was yesterday!  All my hunting mentors had one, so I needed one too. 😀. Did a lot of work in the family garden to save for that rifle.
