Nick's V. White's Packers
« on: January 23, 2020, 07:06:00 AM »
I've worn White's off and on for 20+ years.  Back then you would make fun of the guy showing up with Nick's because he was probably trying to save a few bucks.  It sounds like times might have changed?  Did White's ownership change?  I haven't bought a pair of Whites in some time so I began looking at the two companies.  I don't really care about other companies, I like that they are both close.

I want to get a pair of Packers if anyone has any experience with the two?  Either or?

I plan on most likely going to both stores, I do need to get my Smokejumpers resoled but I hear Nick will work on White's boots too.

If you want custom, jk boots is the best at this point. My last pair of whites blew out in under a year and had to be sent in.

I think White's discontinued making their packers.

I thought so too but they still show them online?   :dunno:

I think White's discontinued making their packers.

I'm sure there are other respectable boot makers out there and ones likely better but these two have been around for a long, long time and have weathered many economic downturns, etc.  There are a lot of handcrafted boots that disappear whenever the first sign of recession shows up.  I want something that has at least lasted through a few rough patches.

If you want custom, jk boots is the best at this point. My last pair of whites blew out in under a year and had to be sent in.

I don't like my White's pac boots. They leaked right away.

Are you asking about packers or Pac boots there is a difference.  I bought a pair of reconditioned White's rubberlower/ leather upper pac boots in around 96 and wore them every winter til about 08 or 09 sent them in so the lower could be rebuilt and have been wearing the new ones every hunting season and all winter long with absolutely no problems.
Packers are all  leather boots

My mistake. I thought he was asking about  Pac boots. Didn't realize that they were 2 different things.

On that subject I agree completely. Whites pacs lasted me less than a year before leaking so bad they were useless. The sole separated and allowed snow to pac lol under my foot.

Hoffmans makes a very high quality pac boot if you are in the market. I retired a pair this year after somewhere around 7 years of hard use.

If looking for packers or other leather boots, both jk and franks are high reputation guys in Spokane. I would talk to them before nicks or whites imo

I doubt I'll ever get another pair of Whites again. to be repaired fine tell me that dont send me away with garbage.
Even their customs dont hold up. After a full rebuild of their customs they lasted less than one working day before they blew out. If they were too far gone

Around 2014 I got my Nick's and they were better than any Whites I ever had. Better finished, heavier leather and soles etc. If these ever wear out I may try Frank's since they were formed from a core group out of Nick's.

If your going to Spokane go to Frank's. They are like what Whites use to be. I've got two pairs now and won't go back to Whites. Whites are not the same boots they use to be. They are in the old Nick's store.

My old Whites are pretty good. I like my 2 pair of Nicks better. I swiched to Nicks probably10 years ago. Bought a pair of Ash Kickers at Nicks a year ago and they are great!
