Myself and my group are in for deer and applied for special elk permits. Will turn my elk tag back in if successful in the big game combo but unsuccessful special elk permit.

Would have been shocked if the two of you weren't in for deer  :yike:

No kidding. We normally do deer/elk but we should draw our Oregon tags so going to focus on that and just hope we draw deer

I saw that too, figured this year will be good probability to get a deer tag. Might even be left-overs?

I drove from Chehalis to Conrad, MT.  Today the amount of animals I saw was amazing.  Between  Bonner and Lincoln easley 400 Elk and herds of deer everywhere. Then between Vaughn and Conrad Antelope by the 100's. It was very nice to see. I 'd have to say the winter survival rate was excellent. We needed this mild winter this year. Good luck to all that put in for the draws.  Now for a good nights sleep and back to Chehalis in the morning.

Do you know if this is overall, or just deer? I'd be willing to pick up a leftover nonres deer/elk combo if Utah doesn't pan out. Thanks.

It says applications are down 37%, not much more detail.

It’s a weird feeling being happy that my chances of drawing are higher, but then realizing why many folks aren’t applying. I feel for anyone who is in a rough spot and can’t apply. Hope you guys all get back to whichever states that you like to hunt as soon as possible. Strange times for sure.

A little off-topic, but reading that blog link left me uneasy with how states like Montana might be handling this information.  Having insider knowledge on draw odds during the app period doesn't seem right to me...no more than insider trading on stocks...maybe less of a concern for general season 'where are we at' stats, but individual permit hunts...  :dunno:
