My first turkey
« on: May 26, 2020, 11:44:55 PM »
I shot my first turkey in the Mount Spokane area on Saturday which listening to them gobbling was really cool I was nervous they wouldn’t be sounding off since it’s late in the season. The beard was 10.5 inches with 1 1/8 spurs which I was told was a nice Turkey and it was around 25 lbs I’m guessing it was a heavy bird. I found out I’m not a great shotgun shooter so maybe next year I will try with a bow

Nice plump bird. Great job. Should be some monster breast meat on a 25 pouder.

Did some one tell you that is a Rio? I understand they are considered merriam's in Spokane county and from
what I was told that looks like a Merriam.

That’s what I was told by a couple people I am no expert in turkey but I shot at a big Tom that had a ton of white feathers which I was told was a true Merriams

Your turkey looked like all I have taken in Stevens and Pend Oreille county. The turkey regs the state puts out list the NE corner as being Merriam's . The Rio's in Whitman, lincoln, counties and the Blue mts. There might be some crossing. I  have looked at pictures of Rio's and they are very Buff colored. Nice bird regardless.
