I mostly lurk on here these days but I use to be fairly active on here.  I opened up the mail yesterday and saw my Idaho envelope that usually says you were unsuccessful in drawing for a bighorn sheep hunt.  When I saw the "congratulations" I about hit the floor.  My dream of hunting sheep is alive although many of you may have followed my first ram hunt back in 2015 for dall sheep.

So much is going through my head to be ready but I need step up my workout schedule...because I drew in unit 27 Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness.  I've hiked in the unit before and I'm smart enough to not try this one on my own at 45 years old.  Just to access the unit is a brutal 25 mile hike.  I'll probably be going with Dave Melton from Bighorn Outfitters.

Very excited and I'll try to keep anyone interested updated.
Dave is top notch!  I hunted with his brother this last fall.  Have you talked to him yet?

 nice! Will be following along. I have some friends that drew as a couple and hiked some insane miles in there a couple years ago. I do know some guys who floated early and hiked up and killed sheep

Congrats.  You'll do the tag justice and we'll all get to see how great it was because of your skills on the camera.   Hope its all you are dreaming about.

Congrats.  Goodluck.  Go with Dave and do the late float hunt.

Dave is a great guy,  and will give you a good hunt..camps are phenomenal..I’ve hunted with him a couple of times..if you are there during deer season have a tag as there are some big deer and shoot all the wolves you can.

If I don't find one early season I will likely do a float hunt in the later season when they start rutting in October.  In early Sept the rams tend to hang out 4K+ feet above the river.  Going in from the top just makes sense and I have been in there before on a hike.  This will be a glassing heavy hunt as you can get to great vantage points and glass a lot of country.  Because it has trees, rams can hide in there from your view and you just have to keep watching likely areas.  We will see how it goes!

Congrats!  Just drawing the tag is an accomplishment  :)

I have seen sheep in 27 nearly every year I have been on the river late Oct and November.. If you do it yourself, don't forget your float permit.

It was 25 years ago.  I might have some slides somewhere but I doubt it...
