Who's hunted Green River 485?
« on: June 16, 2020, 03:26:30 PM »
My daughter and I were drawn as a group (15 points for her and 9 for me) and I was wondering who has hunted that tag and if they had any input. One thing for sure, I think we got lucky. What bit of information I've read on some of the past posts, it sounds like a fun hunt.

Really cool area, not what it once was as far as elk goes but you should do fine. Talk to the shed heads, they know were the animals are :twocents:
Go hawks

Consider going over there well before the season starts and just see if you can talk with some of the employees.  They are generally happy to share info.  If you wait unit opening morning to speak with them, well... you likely won't get as much info.

I was going to start doing just that. I'm curious how or where there is access points or where are the gates or offices. Would it be on the north or south side... approach it from 410 or I-90?.

You will need to go to the guard gate and get information to enter the watershed

I have the same tag but have not been there for years. I believe the guardshack is still off of the Headworks road past Kanasket Palmer State Park.

Got the permits in hand, so pretty stoked. Still haven't picked up a map yet, but when I do, I'll be getting back to you guys who have given me info already.
Weird thing though, the dates are different than the hunting regs. Hunting regulations say October 17th to the 23rd, while permit says 24th to 30th. Time to call Wdfw...

That is strange???  I'll be in there with my dad for his disabled buck tag.  The area is beautiful, you'll probably want to hit the elk fields that they made early in the morning.  Be the first guy at the gate and you'll get to pick which field you want, hopefully the others will leave you alone if you are already sitting there.  The big bulls will be hiding by then, those guys are tougher to find, but the rags will be in the fields.  Take advantage of the time you get to be in there, even if you tag out, stay and hunt bear, cougar, and just look around, you may find some sheds that the security guys missed.  When I've been in there some guards are cool, some didn't talk about locations of animals.  The mucks get to choose the dates so maybe that's why the dates possibly changed??  I actually hope those dates are the real ones, going to the 30th will be better for the deer hunters, doesn't really matter for the elk guys.
“In common with”..... not so much!!
