I've been running dozens of cams year around since they were first invented and have never once formatted an sd card. What does that even mean?

What does that even mean?On my bushnells it erases the pictures that were on that card so its clear. I've also tried without and had the card not work then formatted the card and it will work in the camera. How do you delete your pictures? It is a option in the submenu in the camera
