Mtn view cow elk rifle tag
« on: June 19, 2020, 09:28:54 PM »
My buddy and I drew cow elk tags for Mtn view.  We plan to head out for a scouting trip this summer.  I guessing the majority of the bulls would be higher in the unit, although well below the roads.  And the cows would be much closer to the bottom?  If you have any tips please share?  I don’t hunt elk unless I get drawn so I don’t plan on hunting this unit again for a long time.

Is that the elk area 1013 tag? If so it is limited to land that is not forest service. Very little public land for that hunt.

Might be the steepest unit in the state.  Have fun!

Don't think there is a mt view tag for all of mt view.  It is mainly on private below NF land. Some public land but not much

Look at the hunt area. They call it mtn view but the hunt area is elk area is 1013.

That hunt option is a bit misleading unless you look close. I know a few people who have drawn it not realizing it was only for part of the unit.

Listen to the meat eater podcast episode titled “titillation”. I believe it’s episode 133 or around there. It’s the unit he got his huge bull in. He gives a lot of general knowledge and advice about the unit.

Everything he talks about is not open for this cow tag

I watched the video and the podcast.  So I guess I will do the opposite and go fish.

That piece of state ground in the eastern ish part of the unit might be worth a hike into. Its open, public, and may have elk.

It's basically private land only. Theres a little state an BLM land but all the national forest is off limits for cow hunting. Knock on some doors and good luck!
