WTB: nice Remington 11-87 12ga
« on: August 04, 2020, 08:08:14 AM »
I am helping my dad look for a new-to-him upland bird hunting shotgun. He has used a Remington 1100 12ga 28" for nearly 40 years, and it has finally worn out to the point that he is ready to replace it. He is looking for a nice Remington 11-87 12ga (new or used) with a 26" or 28" barrel (must be threaded for Rem Chokes, and preferably chambered for 2.75" and 3" cartridges, but he would be fine with 2.75" chamber only). He wants the classic wood furniture with blued finish. Again, used is fine as long as it is in good condition. I've been looking at Gunbroker and a couple of other sites, but buying used locally is preferred just so he can look it over before buying. If you have one for sale, or if you see a nice one at a local shop (he is in North Snohomish, but willing to travel), please let me know. Thanks!
I love the smell of gunpowder in the morning.

Got one in my gun safe for the last 15+years.  But I am in Spokane. Does have rem choke.

Contact Dave at Dave's Harbor guns. He has exactly what you are looking for in the shelf. 360-648-2260. I know because it was my dad's shotgun and he's selling it for the family. It has two barrels. Only thing is it's old enough to not be threaded for choke tubes.

It is a nice platform for upland. Make sure you get the Light Contour barrel. It is lighter and swings quicker. I looked for one for about a year and found one like-new on GB (26" LC Premier) and (I think) all of those with rem-choke came with the 2 3/4" & 3" barrel. I paid (what I consider a premium) for it but it shoots and handles great. An old codger myself, I can tell you your dad won't be disappointed.
Good luck with your search & purchase.

I was going to add that I performed my search after a hunt where I used my FIL's Model 1100 28" 12ga and I loved it. Hits the shoulder like there is a whole bag of marshmellows between the but and your shoulder as compared to my LW O/U... but I shot it well and had a blast banging pheasant as a 'backup' shooter on a guided hunt on released birds to my BIL so he wouldn't be too embarrassed on his shooting (he's a confirmed elk hunter). Anyway, I became a Rem-auto lover after that. And I am a sort of dbl-barrel snob... except for my Remy.
