scope for coyote hunting
« on: August 27, 2020, 08:20:18 PM »
Just purchased an AR-15 and would like some input on what scope to mount on it. Not really desiring a red-dot and probably would lean toward a duplex type reticle, but I'm interested in what you who are already hunting coyotes have to offer in advice. Ammo would be .223/5.56.

I have a Vortex 3 power BDL scope on mine. Great scope!  Worked awesome all last week, can be turned to red, black or green.
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

A lot depends on where your at and how you hunt them. For called coyotes a 2x7 works fine.

On my AR I use a 2.5x 8 Leupold. Good for calling, plus good field of few for making adjustments on running shots.... fairly small-not bulky.....

Primary Arms 1x6 with predator lighted reticle.($289.00)

Nikon P-223 1x4 or 3x9 BDC Reticle (non-lighted) . Around $200.

All are amazing scopes for the money.  With a little time behind them I will never go back to a duplex reticle ever!

I second the Primary Arms 1-6x predator reticle. Awesome scope for the money.

I have a similar setup on my AR... Holo sight with a vortex flip over 3x. Holo is nice for on the move shots but the flip over zoom comes in handy for longer shots.

I just put a Nikon M-223 with BDC on my AR. First shot on a coyote was money at 305 yards. Zeroed at 150, next circle down is money at 300. A 3 legged yote too!!

I would get an illuminated scope if you plan on getting into it.

It really helps in low light conditions.
