Mountain house time!!!!!
« on: September 24, 2020, 08:07:57 PM »
Hey yall,

I'm getting prepped for a 13ish day fly in elk and mule deer hunt and am stocking up on my mountain house meals. What are your favorites and what are your No bleep! way meals?

I'm packing, biscuits and gravy (1 favorite), beef stroganoff (#2), Lasagna with meat sauce, chicken noodle casserole, and Pad Thai chicken.

You will never see in my pack Chili Mac, or any other breakfast they make. Over the years I have learned, less flavor is better for me and reconstituted Chili Mac with ice water when the stove is broken is the pits.

Leave the MH and grab some Peak Refuels. Pick your flavors. Better for you, better tastes. Chicken Pesto Pasta is a 11/10. :twocents:

Worst tasting for me is the Pasta Primavera. Favorite dinner is Lazagna w/meat sauce. Favorite breakfast is biscuits and gravy.

Are you stuck on mountain house or do you want to try something different that i think is healthier.
Heathers choice makes a much better product in my opinion.
My daughters have sensitive stomach and this stuff sits fine with them. You can read and understand all the ingredients and they fill you up. I like the apple spiced pie for breakfast and the smoked sockeye salmon chowder dinner, moms spaghetti is good to.

Anybody who recommends Heather's Choice Smoked Sockeye Salmon Chowder needs a thorough mental evaluation. :chuckle: :chuckle:

Or other just add water foods. I could eat four cheese instant potatoes for a week  :chuckle:

Good luck on the hunt, sounds killer.

Awesome idea. I eat Justin's like its going out of style. Fbomb looks kinda similar but I had never heard of it.

As far as why I am buying Mountain House, simply because I have used them. I will probably grab some meals from PEAK too, some of those flavors looked great. I just know hunting I'm totally fine eating MH biscuits and gravy every day, builder bars, complete cookie, Justin's almond butter and a nut butter cliff bar throughout the day to keep me going until dinner. Totally not married to my food yet. In exactly one month I will be chilling in spike camp.

If I have extra room in my pack I stuff as many Quaker Real Medleys or Bobs Red Mill oatmeal cups as I can fit in there. I’m not a heavy breakfast eater and I prefer those over any other freeze dried breakfast

We have always thought the MH beef stroganoff was pretty good but my buddy had a peak refuel beef stroganoff on our Wyoming hunt & thought it was better than MH. I did try the granola & blueberries tho both with hot & cold water an it was really good & easy on the stomach for breakfast.

The chicken dumplings is really good, but then again I just ate chili mac 4 nights in a row last week and loved it every night so we might not have the same taste :chuckle:

I actually like MH. B&G, and breakfast skillet, most all dinners except chili mac and the one with whole chicken breast.
