Daughter's buck.
« on: October 19, 2020, 09:17:04 AM »
Spent the weekend hunting with my 2 oldest daughter.  Was honestly a little worried about how the younger one would do (first year) with the hiking.  Turns out she's a little mountain goat and crushed the hills all weekend.
Spotted a bedded buck at about 600 yards for the older daughter and I to stock in on but right before we left for the stock he got up and moved up the draw to where we couldn't see him but he never left the draw so we made a long trek around the canyon to his side to come in on him from the top.  When we got over to that side we located what turned out to be a different buck bedded straight below us at 330yds.  We dropped in to a small draw and crept out to the point about 175yds above the deer.  Waited a few minutes and he stood up and started moving with a doe and smaller buck.  Had the daughter get up on the sticks for a shot and she kinda rushed it in the excitement and missed but the buck was unsure what happened and only went about 30yds and stopped she got back on the deer for a 2nd shot and couldn't get the gun to fire.  I don't think she got the bolt closed so I had her rack another.  She shoots and I heard the bullet hit and the deer kinda stumbles over the hill out of sight and BOOM another shot from over the hill right from where the buck went and I'm thinking oh crap here we go someone else shot it too.  We dropped down to were the deer was and found blood and started trailing over the rocks and 50yds later just over the crest of the hill she spots the deer dead right below us.  Talked to the other hunters and they shot at a yote and not the deer thank goodness.

Love it!  Thanks for sharing the pic and story!
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
