Norman89 2020/2021
« on: November 07, 2020, 05:29:09 PM »
The time is upon us lady's and gents! My season is well underway with the same farms having beaver problems and testing some new floating colony's I set out today on the local lake. Helping out frankenyota get going is fun as well. here's some pics since a thread is useless without them 🤣 no matter the torrential downpour we had today my 75$ trapping boat was kicking along the only person on the lake had a nice chat with the local game warden at the launch who thought the floating colony's were a great idea

Is there a way you keep these from being cleaned by ravens?

I placed them in dense second and third growth forest with a thick canopy at least 50-100 yards from a timber edge so far no problems with Ravens just the darn long tail cat variety ripping them out of tree and packing them off deeper into the bush

With how much highwater I see in my local rivers creeks and lakes I think if it works it may produce just as well as underwater colony traps iv been using for years since I don't need to spend the time locating runs and dens and setting accordingly I'll take some pics tomorrow when I check there is a lot of cuttings up and down the outflow of the lake into the creek that I set on. Water that is usually 3 feet deep is near five right now so I figured wait half the season for the water to come down and find the dens or try out the floaters. It never hurts to try something new and Mike mattaney (hoping I spelled his name right) has already proved a floating colony works very well there are videos on youtube of his trap in action and i finally got a good look at his design thanks to trapper john and frankenyota. His design is a bit more complicated then this but you don't know till you try. I'm sure the design will evolve as I find ways to improve the catch, sames as my next beaver/otter/ bobcat cages will be collapsible if I can figure out the last piece of the puzzle iv been wracking my brain on the last 2 years :bash:
