Nitrofire / Firestick not up to snuff for WA
« on: November 12, 2020, 01:45:12 PM »
Thought I would make my first post here as a warning to anyone else considering the Traditions Nitrofire with the Firestick as a muzzleloader. According to WA DFW they would not consider this to be a muzzleloader. They are taking the position that "loaded from the muzzle" must be both the charge AND the projectile and the Nitrofire only has the projectile loaded from the muzzle.

Now if you read the WAC they mention it does not specifically state that, however it seems they have already taken a position on this, and I do not believe it would be worth the effort to convince them otherwise.

From a hunter's standpoint I feel that the fire stick detracts from the primitive nature of muzzleloader hunting, so I for one am glad that they seem to disallow the fire sticks use for ML.

I agree with the WDFW on this. The "load" is both the powder and projectile, and both need to be loaded from the muzzle end, not the breach end.

I agree as well, I was just pointing out that their definition does leave room for some debate.

I also agree with WDFW on this issue.  I wrote in to the WDFW Rules Coordinator to express my perspective opposing this.

Yes. That's a legal muzzleloader as long as you use iron sights and not a scope.

What happens when Federal and Hodgdon decide to change their mind about producing these things when nobody buys these precharged sticks...don't get stuck with a rifle you can't use.
