Son made a 250 yard shot with his 7mm08 with my bipod attached. Clipped the top of his heart and the offside lung.

I spotted a deer from the top road beginning of the cut but could only see its shoulders back. As I got out to get a better angle my boy was already out and loading his rifle. It was a doe and she was feed without a care in the world. The cut had a road that went down and around the top 2/3s so we decided to walk that road to the end. Half way I spotted 2 does that were in between the rig and the 1st doe and they trotted out the bottom. As we moved along scanning everything below us and to our right I picked up that lone doe   about 80 yards out. She was on a small spine and the road looped around the draw so we continued to try and pick out more deer. As we moved towards the landing a 6 inch spike busted toward the doe at 60 yards. Nathan wanted to shoot it really bad and I said no not on the 1st day of late buck. As he was pleading he noticed a deer to his left at 150 or so. I couldn't find it. Being color blind is rough when it comes to blacktail hunting. He gets his binos on it and says it's a good buck. At this point I'm frantically trying to get him to give me landmarks so I can get my eyes on him. At this point he starts to move and we are both watching him as Nathan is getting behind the rifle. I ranged him at 210 moving away but not to fast. My boy is tracking well and keeps saying no shot dad. I let him know to be patient, the buck had a lot of ground to cover before he could get out of the cut. At this point he disappears into a little draw and we have a few seconds of where is he where is he. I told my boy he has to pop out somewhere so keep looking. The buck comes up out of the low spot at 250 and is still only offering butt and heavy quarter moving slightly left to right up hill. Just as he turns broadside and comes to a stop I let out a LOUD whistle and he looks back at us. My son says I got him and boom the Savage 140gr TTSX ate. The buck did a massive kick and 180 all in the same leap and disappeared into the little draw. We watched for 5 min scanning the bottoms and sides looking for any sign of the buck. High 5s, hugs and congratulations were given to a little boy shaking with adrenaline. He said I know he's down, i had it right on his shoulder. We then made a slow walk back to my rig looking into the bottom for any sign of a downed deer. We got our packs situated for processing and packing a dead deer from the bottom of the clearcut with no lower roads. We picked our way down a spine and worked toward where I thought he would be. After a couple hundred yards we slowed way down trying to pick him out. As we got to the spot he was standing my son says he's right there. I said where he said right there like 20 yards. It was more like 40 and again I'm color blind so it took me a second but sure enough dead deer 40 yards from where he shot him. He walked up and poked him to make sure he was expired. Then more knuckles and high 5s. He started to examine his deer to see where he hit him. We discover and entranced tight to the right shoulder and an exit through the off shoulder. Many pics and gutless field dressing we had loaded packs and were ready for the trip out but my son wanted to see where he hit him so I ended up pulling his guts out anyway to get to his vitals. He hit the front top side of the heart and the far lung. His buck was dead in seconds. I was as proud as any father could possibly be of his son, young or old.  But for a 12 year old to make a single shot like that on his 1st buck was impressive. To top it off he packed out the backstraps, neck meat and head falling a couple times with burning legs and never complained once. Pulled the trigger at 8:30 and we were back to the 4runner at 11:30. What a spectacular morning.
