Beaver trapping,is too much a bad thing?

I am on an active beaver spot,Not having any luck yet.Is putting too much lure of different kinds a bad thing?

I have castor,food lure,Aspen branches(shaved).

Using some lures like castor does a few things but it puts the beavers on alert there is something going on. Usually I will go into a new location and spend the first while up to 2 weeks with strictly underwater blind sets and pick off as many as I need far away from the lodge or den. This method ups your odds to take out the larger adults first as they travel farther from the lodge normally and they are usually the ones to get trap shy and get curiose to anything going on. Then move closer to the lodge for the smaller ones. And I only use lure as a last resort since I have non stop problems with raccoons messing with my sets as soon as I put out castor. I can pretty easily remove a colony without using lure if it's flowing water in creeks and rivers and swamps with good solid runs. Lakes are a bit harder

I use castor as an extra - find a traveled run and setup on that.   Pile some branches and muck and top with tablespoon or less of dried castor on pile just as insurance to pull em in.

On a nuisance job 100%  castor mound sets and just like rats or mice you flood the area with sets so you clear them out in the first couple nights cause after that they wise up quick
One job I pulled 19 beaver out in the first 3 nights and 4 more over the next week
Food lure I believe works better late in the winter

Lure is spendy, if you can catch what you want without it you’ll save a few bucks. That being said I like castor based lures haven’t had as much success with food lure.

I rarely use lure for beaver. I mostly use blind sets, swim throughs. Main reason is a trap under water gives you the three day trap check window. Even before cages I rarely used lure and depended on blind sets mostly.
That being said, back before I had conibears and a lot of people used exclusively scent sets for beaver I never noticed much fear of lure even though it was overused during those times.
What can scare beaver though is going into an area and stomping all over it. You are looking for that perfect spot  and all that activity can scare the beaver into holding up in their den for an extended time or even cause them to leave the area.
I do think beaver can be reluctant to enter a lured cage because of the cage more so then the lure. That is my last chose for a set but sometimes that is all you can do. Give it some time.

I use just a very little castor I dip a twig in the chaser and what ever is on the end of the twig is all I use.Once I catch one I use a drop of oil from there oil sac in the next sets.
