Grinners for bate?
« on: January 11, 2021, 12:58:10 PM »
So... I am a new trapper, this is my first year trying to catch a bobcat. And I have them and a mink on cam at a few locations.  I can't get the dam mink to go into a cage..... Next stinking grinners keep hitting my bob cat traps and they have now eaten ALL the bait I had. So I am reduced to grinners for bate. Do grinners work for bait? lol seems to have slowed the grinner catch. But it's still early. Should I just pull my sets and go back to water trapping and get more bait? Anyone ever catch a bob using a grinner for bait?

You could try it but cheap super market chicken is probably a better choice.

Grinners are close to a last resort on the food chain.  For mink, chicken would be better.  We always used a mash up of salmon, tuna, and mackerel for mink and coon.  But muskrat is best, with beaver being second.

I’d think it would have to be a pretty much starving cat to eat a opossum

Dangit. I guess I have some traps to pull. OR... is there a store bought bait that works good for bobcats? I am still new at this but all the beavers and muskrats I have caught so far have been before the water comes up, like it is now, I am not sure if I could catch beavers or muskrats (they seem hard to find in my area, where should I be looking, nice swampy areas don't seem to have them, unless I would have to use a boat and go out to them) I can find beavers but not muskrats. Hmmm what should I do, or where to trap now? I am going to do some water sets and try and get some bait, that means moving the few traps I have. Thanks guys, for not letting me waist the rest of the season trying to use grinners for bait... lol They don't seem to work... even for grinners...
