Methow moose
« on: January 24, 2021, 10:39:56 PM »
Sitting on my couch this morning and a moose walked by.  First one I’ve seen in the valley.

Nothing new,  Seen moose in the Valley since the mid 70's.   Every where from Pateros to Mazama.  Had one on the Big Valley the year they redid the highway through it.  Took out 20 yards of new four wire fence one morning. Walked by the kitchen window of the bosses house while we had a cup of coffee.  Big ole bull!!

Had two six point bull elk on the ranch too,  they were there for about three years.
The only good tree, is a stump!

Big girl. Thanks for sharing. I've seen 4 moose in the Mazama area in the last 5 or so years. One was a big bull. Also saw an enormous bull at/near Sun Mountain when I was about 10.

  :tup::Always neat to see.

Ive seen probably around 11 or 12 in my Methow travels, a couple that stand out was a HUGE bull I seen about 16 or 17 years ago while post season scouting, it stared me down from about 30-40 yards away doing the "head swaying" deal, kind of freaky, I had my big lab with me that I think was kind of a deterrent :dunno:. Another one was some pre season scouting with my dad, we seen something odd moving in a thicket, jet black but couldn't make out what it was, then out pops a little calf, then another and another then momma, they looked only days old, real awkward looking. My dad who had lots of experience with moose up in Alaska in his younger days figured maybe a week or so old, he had never seen triplets before, pretty amazing. We told a bio we knew and he said that was extremely rare, he even asked if there was another cow in the area, could have been, but we didn't see another one.

 There are at least 4 different ones up off of Buttermilk Creek Rd. that I know of.
