Bear numbers east Cascade
« on: February 20, 2021, 08:43:49 AM »
The stars have aligned and crowinghen and I are retiring this summer, July 31, we picked that date for a reason. We bought a little place in west Ellensburg, we won't have time to scout the area up behind our place, Manastash, before the season so plan to hunt our spots on the west side this fall. Next year I hope to stay closer to home, what can I expect as far as bear numbers in that area? Are the numbers comparable to the west side timber lands?

Take a look at the harvest totals for Manashtash, not real high if I recall correctly.

Killed one in umtanum a few years back( close to Manashtash) I was bird hunting and just happened to have my rifle.. I’ve hunted them since in the general area with no luck. Have seen some sign but not nearly as much as i see in western wa.

You are within 50 miles of pretty good bear hunting though.  You definitely don't need to go back to the west side to find bears.  Just look a little bit further west, north or south.

I've been doing a bit of e-scouting, areas out of Easton and Roslyn look good just need to get up there and start looking for the food sources in close proximity of cool cover.
We have to hunt the west side this year, we need a little redemption after last season, bad shooting and bad luck, we ended up not filling a tag, went a whole winter with out any rendered fat and no smoked ribs for Christmas dinner, devastating. :'(

Not a lot of bear, but I have seen a couple real nice ones.   A lot of chocolate in the hood.
