Archery with a mask
« on: February 25, 2021, 11:15:17 AM »
Rookie question here.  Just started archery after years and years of exclusively using the thunderstick.  Since I'm an urbanite, I can only use an indoor range without having to drive really far, but since the range is indoors during the pandemic masks are required.  So my question...is practicing exclusively with a mask going to throw off my anchor point when I get outside and won't be wearing a mask?  Specifically, the fact that when I touch my nose to the string, there's an added mask layer there.  Thanks in advance, and funny off-topic responses are always appreciated as well.

I wear a face mask (gaiter) when hunting quite a bit, especially in a blind and have never had any issue

Would’n’t effect me.  Same as above, I’ve shot with a net over my head, etc, no issue.

In the late seventies I used to wear a paper sack over my head at competitions. I was known as the unknown archer.

Whatever paid the bills man.

Sometimes i would rock a rainbow afro when I felt biblical and all, neither had a positive effect on my archery.

Is the paper bag compliant with the state COVID laws?  Maybe I could just turn it backwards except when I'm shooting?  :)

It could easily affect many things. The fact that you have to wear a mask for no reason at all often causes tension and for you to release before you anchor. Then when you shoot outside in the woods and you are relaxed, you'll shoot differently. Consider shooting outside, maybe Denny or Cal Anderson Parks.  :dunno:

Any chance you were stationed at Camp Lejeune in NC at the time? As we had an archer that did that there

I hunt with a neck gator that I pull up when hunting.  It doesn’t effect how I shoot.  Use it when stalking deer & elk as well.
Cut em!

Like the others, I have a net camo head piece I used when hunting. Worked fine.
Cuterebra are NOT cute!
