Montana Application Help
« on: February 26, 2021, 11:54:51 AM »
So I am having my son put in with me this year. I already have my Montana hunter #
Does he get his number before he applies or does he just get it assigned to him when he applies?
It’s been a long time

I believe he just needs to get in and fill out all his information to be assigned a new ALS number.

Another question
How does he get the ALS #
Does he just get one when he applies with me?
I already have had one for 15+ years

No.  Deadline last year for just buying points (preference and bonus) was Sept 30.

Anyone doing the elk and deer combo? Or just the deer tag? We did elk/deer to hopefully increase our chances.

Per last years drawing statistics, the draw odds were just about equal with both options mentioned above.  Somewhere in the low 70's% each.  My guess, is that those odds will be less than 50% each this year.

im curious to see if the epic CO season dates will have much pull from MT. Anyone skipping MT to head to CO this year?

Big newbie dummy question, are your chances of getting drawn better as a group or individual for big game combo?
$5 is a lot of money if you ain't got it

Depends - They average your points and round it so if your ave is 1.4 rounds down to 1.   If 1.6 rounds up to 2.   You can figure it out from there for which is better in your case

I haven't hunted Colorado myself but I think it will be very interesting after all of the draws are done and in the books, to go back and see what each states draw odds were and how all of these different state changes, Covid issues, and increased applicant numbers really affected each individual draw odds.  I think it will be like trying to predict this years March Madness basketball brackets.  I failed miserably.  This last hunting season I figured draw odds would be good in all states due to Covid uncertainty but oh boy was I wrong!   Just the opposite.  I seem to have a knack at being wrong on these things.  Will be interesting to see how it all plays out but currently while we are all in the thick of it, it can be maddening to try and decide what basket to put our eggs in!!! (haha Easter pun for ya!)  :dunno:

You're not the only one. I was positive last year was gonna be THE YEAR to snag some tags that a guy normally may not have the best odds at. You know, because the economy was gonna tank and everyone was gonna be unemployed and living on the streets because of covid.

Every CO point holder is crawling out of the wood work to cash in on a NOV 13th 3rd season opener this year. I'd assume that will have at least a small draw of applicants out of MT this year. Who knows anymore though.

Rut Jerry. CO is the land of giants and these are the latest season dates we've ever seen. I don't like it at all but it is what it is. The state wants to nuke a bunch of mature bucks and this is gonna do it unfortunately  :twocents:

The dates were pretty good last year as well for the 3rd season and it was 70 degrees a couple days before we got there....no mature bucks were harmed in our area :chuckle:
